Welcome to the Middle States Evaluation Team!
The Middle States Evaluation Team will arrive on campus on Monday, March 24th for a welcome reception and dinner. Beginning on Tuesday, March 25th, the team will meet with various groups of our campus community. The schedule is posted on the website and can also be found on MyIU.The Exit Report will be presented by Mr. Hurley on Thursday, March 27th at 11:00 AM in the Green Room. All are welcomed to attend.

The members of the Middle States Evaluation Team have been announced. The team will visit Immaculata University from March 24th to March 27th. The members of the team are: John J. Hurley - Chair, President of Canisius College; Margaret F. Boorstein- Long Island University; Elizabeth Ciabocchi - St. John's University; Michael F. Gross - Georgian Court University; Dorothy E. Habben - St. John's University; Jeffery A. Kessler - Adelphi University; Maria Krupin - Ramapo College of New Jersey; and Christopher Robert Sheffield - Niagara University.
January 27, 2014
On January 27th, Dr. Maria Cuddy-Casey and Mrs.Barbara Gallagher, Co-chairs of the Middle States Steering Committee presented an overview of the Self- Study Report to the Immaculata University Board of Trustees. Prior to the meeting, the board members had received a copy of the report for review. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Self Study Report.

The Self Study Report was accepted by the voting members of the assembly at the Faculty Meeting on December 5th. The entire IU community has access to the report through the portal or on the IU Middle States webpage. The Self Study Report will be presented to the Board of Trustees in January, 2014.
During the fall of 2014, the Steering Committee continued to revise and update data on the draft Self- Study Report. After numerous hours of discussion and revisions, our editors - Dr. Janet Kane and Dr. Julie Ryan - finalized the report and the Self-Study Report was affirmed by the Steering Committee on November 19th. The Self-Study Report was posted on MyIU and sent to all Administration and faculty members for their review.
October 16 and 17, 2013 Preliminary Visit by Mr. John Hurley
Immaculata University will welcome Mr. John Hurley for the Middle States Preliminary Visit. Mr. Hurley, president of Canisius University, is the chair of the peer review team that will be visiting Immaculata University on March 24 to 27th, 2014.

The Steering Committee has posted the fourth draft of the Self-Study Report for review. Further edits and refinement of the narrative have been made. All comments and suggestions regarding the Community Draft #4 should be sent to Dr. Maria Cuddy-Casey (email@example.com) or Barbara Gallagher (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than noon on November 11, 2013.

The Steering Committee has posted the second draft of the Self-Study Report for review. Edits in terms of further refinement of the narrative, community input and steering committee discussions have been incorporated into Draft #2. The Steering Committee has posted the first draft of the Self-Study Report for your review. You can find Community Draft #1 under the Self-Study Drafts tab or on MyIU under the Middle States channel. As you read the draft, please look to see if the document draft has answered the following questions: Is Immaculata University in compliance with the Standards of Excellence and the fundamental elements put forth by the Middle States Comission on Higher Education? Has the document highlighted the growth and accomplishments of Immaculata University in the past 10 years? Has the document noted areas of improvement needed by the university? Please keep in mind that this is the first draft of the document and that additional editing and revisions will occur throughout the next six months. All comments and suggestions regarding the Community Draft #1 should be sent to Dr. Maria Cuddy-Casey (email@example.com) or Barbara Gallagher (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than noon on May 17, 2013.
April 10, 2013 Mr. John Hurley has been appointed to chair Middle States Team Visit
Sister Patricia Fadden announced today that Mr. John Hurley, President at Canisius College has been appointed as chair of the Middle States Team visit. Mr. Hurley became president of Canisius College on July 1, 2010. He is the first lay president in the College’s 142-year history. Mr. Hurley's initial Middle States visit to Immaculata University will take place on October 16 &17, 2013.
During the spring of 2013, the Steering Committee met to begin the formulation of our research into the first draft of the Middle States document. The initial proposed recommendations were circulated with the first draft of the document. We will ask for comments regarding the first draft to be returned to the co-chairs by May 17th. Community meetings to discuss the first draft and the proposed recommendations were held on April 18th at 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. A presentation of the summary of the findings and the proposed recommendations was given at the faculty meeting on April 25th.
The Steering Committee has convened throughout the winter to discuss the initial reports, the findings and proposed recommendations made by each of the work groups. Community meetings were held on February 5 at 4PM and on February 6 at 5 PM and on March 18 at 4:30PM and on March 21st at 8:30 AM to inform the IU community of the progress of the Steering Committee. The March community meetings specifically addressed the following questions which emerged from the data: 1) Overall student results indicated agreement with IU’s mission being communicated and lived. Do you agree with these findings? Can you give an example? 2) The data showed some concerns with communication and services within departments. What are your thoughts regarding IU’s communication? Services? 3) Do you feel that there is a culture of assessment here at IU? Do we measure what we are doing, e.g. learning outcomes, program goals, decisions for improvements, etc.? If so, in what way(s)? The responses to these questions were recorded and brought back to the Steering Committee for discussion.
January 9, 2013 - January Workshop - "Middle States Self Study Process - An Evidence-Based Inquiry"
Linda Suskie was the keynote speaker at the January workshop. Linda's presentation was centered around the importance of assessment now and in the future for Middle States accreditation.
During the fall, the co-chairs continued to meet with a variety of Immaculata community groups (Board of Trustees, Faculty, Staff and Administration, CUS Student Government Association, CLL Student Advisory Board and CGS Student Advisory Board and two open Community Forums were held on September 24 and September 27) to keep these groups updated on the work of the Steering Committee and Work Groups. At these meetings we asked the groups to reflect on what they feel are Immaculata' s "Strengths and Opportunities " as they see them. These "Strengths and Opportunities" were collected and summarized and will be shared with the Steering Committee, Work Groups and entire community. Campus Climate Surveys were also sent out to all the IU community in September. The surveys were designed to assist with the gathering of data for some of the work groups as they began their research.
The Work Groups have begun the initial stages of their research and have been meeting throughout the summer with the member of the Steering Committee who chairs their work group. The Co-chairs have also been meeting with the Work Groups to assist with this initial stage of the data gathering.
On April 5th, Sister Patricia Fadden was notified that the Immaculata University Self Study Design was approved by Dr. Mary Ellen Petrisko, Vice President, Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Upon this approval of the Self Study Design, the Work Groups will now be able to begin to investigate the research questions that were presented in the Self Study Design.
The Steering Committee and the Work Groups have met to structure the research questions that will be presented in the Self Study Design. The Steering Committee continues to discuss the initial research questions and reviews the questions to ensure that this comprehensive overview of the university will focus on our strengths and also note areas in need of improvement in order that the university will continue to grow and prosper. On February 16th, Dr. Mary Ellen Petrisko, Vice President - Middle States Commission on Higher Education,visited Immaculata University for the self study preparartion visit. Dr. Petrsko met with a variety of campus groups to learn more about the university, its strengths and challenges as discussed within the groups.
The Co-Chairs for the Middle States Self Study- Dr. Maria Cuddy-Casey and Mrs. Barbara Gallagher - were announced by Sister Ann Heath, Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Middle States Accreditation Officer for Immaculata University. The co-chairs attended the "Self Study Institute MSCHE Workshop" in Philadelphia on Novemebr 9th and 10th. The Steering Committee was selected by President, Vice President and Co-Chairs and the first steering committee meeting was held on December 15th. At this time the Work Groups were formed and letters were sent out requesting service to the Middle States Self Study.
