Financial Aid Workshops for the 2012-2013 Academic Year

The Office of Financial Aid, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), will be offering financial aid informational workshops/FAFSA completion sessions to assist families and students with their planning for financing a higher education experience.

I invite you and your family to attend one of our three Financial Aid 101 Workshops, held here on campus.  You may choose to attend multiple sessions.  The workshop dates are:

  • Saturday, January 21, 2012
  • Saturday, February 4, 2012
  • Saturday, February 11, 2012

The Financial Aid Workshop gives you an ideal opportunity to learn about the financial aid process and establish a timeline of important dates and deadlines for processing and determining your aid eligibility.  Topics will include:

  • How to apply for financial aid through the FAFSA. Computers and staff will be available to help you start the process following the presentation. Families are encouraged to bring any 2011 tax information that may be available.
  • A timeline for planning and submitting documentation and information from the family.
  • Planning, not just for the first year, but for all four years.

Financial Aid Workshop Agenda

  • Registration in Loyola Hall – 9 a.m.
  • Financial Aid Presentation – 9:15-10:15 a.m.
  • Financial Aid Online FAFSA Assistance and Q&A – 10:30 a.m.-noon

Important Announcement:

Financial Aid Funds Disbursement Timing Change for all non-standard length program coursework – Spring 2012 Semester

Effective for the Spring 2012 Semester, in order to maintain University compliance with federal regulations, The Office of Financial Aid will be adjusting the award disbursement timing of financial aid funds (federal loan and grants, state grants, and University grants and scholarships) to the student’s billing account for any student who is registered for any combination of  non-standard length classes (less than 15 weeks of instruction time) through either cohort, online, continuing education, or comprehensive enrollment degree programs, will receive their financial aid disbursements up to 10 days prior to: The start date of the registered course that qualifies the student as having at least half-time in class enrollment within the standard University academic semester. To be considered at least half-time, students enrolled in undergraduate programs must be registered for at least 6 credits per semester and graduate students must be registered for at least 4.5 credits, or a qualifying full or half-time internship or practicum.

Financial aid funds will remain in a pending status during the delayed disbursement process allowing students to view their Financial Aid SSIU account provided: (1) they remain registered at least half-time per semester, and (2) all of their financial aid requirements have been satisfied.  Students will not be placed on hold or be assessed a late fee if pending financial aid is greater than or equal to the Spring Semester student account balance.  Pending financial aid will be reflected on the student’s bill and may be subtracted from the balance due.  Any refund amount determination and eligibility criteria will remain unchanged due to policy change; only the timing of the aid disbursements and student refunds will be affected. No refunds (i.e. for books and living expenses) will be processed prior to the payment of financial aid funds to the student’s account.

If you have any questions or would like any additional information regarding this policy change to the timing of financial aid fund disbursements, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 610.647.4400 ext. 3028 or via email to finaid@immaculata.edu.
