the spins on the “Little Black Dress”
One of the things that all Fashionistas must own in their wardrobe is of course the “Little Black dress”. There are some of us who are so obsessed with the little black dress and may own more than one. Coco Chanel created this look close to a century ago. It was a Chic look. This dress later made it to America when Audrey Hepburn wore it on “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. There is an exhibit in Paris at the Mona Bismarck American Center for the Art and Culture featuring the traditional little black dresses as well as the newly re-designed little black dresses made by designers such as Mr. Marc Jacobs. This exhibit is there till September 22 2013. The exhibit features black dresses as traditional as they come; but one shocking dress on display is the cutaway Latex dress worn by Norma Kamali. It also features Tom Ford’s interpretation of the little black dress. Who could forget his body-revealing lace dress? The man who made this exhibit happen was Andre Leon Talley. Andre has contributed to American Vogue. Andre has “no doubts in the power of the little black dress” and neither do I. When you have an interview….little black dress! When you have a wedding and cant find what to wear….little black dress. When you want to look slimming….little black dress!! Have I made my point yet? Anyway, the red walls at the exhibit really allow the black dresses to come to life. There is a mixture of dresses in this exhibit. I am sure that there is a little black dress out there for any and all of us. They don’t all have to be traditional, take the modern version done by Rodarte for example. It would be amazing to see all of the spins created by designers and inspired by Coco Chanel.
