Q: Who is in the SGA?

A: Every student in the College of Undergraduate Studies of Immaculata University is a member of the Student Government Association.

Q: Who is the Student Council?

A: The Student Council is made up of the elected officials that hold voting rights in SGA, and the executive president.

  • Executive Officers: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
  • Class Officers: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, SGA representative, and commuter representative.
  • Councils & Committees: programming board chair and vice chair; communications committee chair and vice chair; residence council chair and vice chair; and commuter council chair and vice chair. 

Q: When are the SGA meetings held?

A:  SGA meetings take place bi-monthly. Usually, they are on Sunday nights at 8:15 p.m. in the Theatre in Alumnae Hall. Dates of meetings are made public to the student body.

Q. Can anyone come to SGA meetings?

A. YES! Everyone is welcome to attend public meetings of the Student Government Association.

Q: Where is the SGA office?

A: SGA shares an office with NSO. The Campus Life Suite is on Terrace DeChantal Hall in Student Development and Engagement.

Q: Why does SGA exist?

A: The purpose of the association shall be to provide an opportunity for every student of the College of Undergraduate Studies of Immaculata University to develop his or her individual character, personality, and capacity for leadership to the highest possible degree through the exercise of personal and group initiative, resourcefulness, and responsibility in the conduct of student affairs.

Q: How do I become involved in SGA?

A: Everyone can be involved in SGA. Whether you are an elected official or a volunteer representative, SGA is looking for dedicated students to serve on committees and, also, be present at SGA, class officer, and council meetings to lend extra input.

Q. Whom do I contact to get involved?

A. You can contact your class officers. (A comprehensive list of class councils are found on the main page.) You can also call the Student Leadership Office, 610-647-4400 ext. 3578 and e-mail SGA at SAIU@mail.immaculata.edu.

 

Student Government Association Constitution & By-Laws

The SGA Constitution & By-Laws are the governing documents for the academic year. The newly elected officers for this year will govern with these documents effective August 1st.

 

SGA Councils & Committees

Residence Council

The Residence Council consists of one chair and vice chair elected by the Student Government Association and a committee composed of two representatives from each residence hall, constructed by the chair after the elections. The Residence Council responds to the needs of the resident students. Residence Council e-mail: rciu@mail.immaculata.edu

Commuter Council

The Commuter Council consists of one chair and vice chair elected by the Student Government Association and a committee consisting of student volunteers from any class constructed by the chair after the elections. The Commuter Council responds to the needs of the commuters.

Programming Board

The Programming Board consists of one chair and vice chair elected by the Student Government Association and a committee consisting of student volunteers from any class constructed by the chair after the elections. The board plans, directs, and manages all activities and events sponsored by the SGA. All funds of the Programming Board are controlled by the treasurer of the Student Government Association in conjunction with a financial manager, a member of the Programming Board committee. All proceeds from any activity sponsored by the Programming Board are given to the treasurer of the SGA.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee consists of one chair and vice chair elected by the Student Government Association and a committee consisting of student volunteers from any class constructed by the chair after the elections. The duties of the committee are to organize and publicize the activities calendar for all student-led events. Communications Committee e-mail: iucc@mail.immaculata.edu

Ways and Means Committee

The Ways and Means Committee consists of the executive treasurer of the Student Government Association, who serves as the chair, and the treasurer from each class. This committee meets at any time deemed necessary by the chair. This committee decides matters concerning the use of Student Council funds by groups not directly associated with the Council. Any University-sponsored group or activity may make a request for funds by giving this committee a written proposal outlining the amount requested and the intended use of the funds on a designated date at the beginning of each semester. Requests for fundraising activities also will be evaluated at this time.

Student Assessment Committee

The Student Assessment Committee consists of the Communications Committee vice chair, who heads the committee, and the SGA representative from each class. This committee meets at any time deemed necessary by the chair.

In conjunction with the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness (IRPE), the Committee is involved in reviewing surveys and data, such as the Sophomore Survey, CUS Exit Survey, NSSE, etc., and making recommendations. The committee assists in communicating information about the surveys as well as the results to the student body and the Student Association.

     d. To improve IRPA projects
     e. To assess Student Development Learning Outcomes (SDLO)

     a. Collaboration with IRPA
     b. Collection of data for SGA planning
     c. Collaboration with Student Development on SDLO
