Bioinformatics 2001
Bioinformatics is a new scientific field that allows scientists to work with the vast amounts of biological information now available by using computer science tools. Bioformatics is the integration of biology and computer technology.
This web site visualizes actual student work completed at Immaculata University, Immaculata, PA during five weeks in the summer of 2001. This program, "Bioinformatics Initiative for High School Students" was funded by the National Science Foundation (Award Number 0086360)
The program utilized the NSF-funded Biology Student Workbench program as part of the curriculum. Learning was conducted using problem and inquiry based methods that focused on student-centered group interaction and research. The program was designed to encourage young women to pursue Bioinformatics as a field of study and science as the the profession.
