Combining Biology with Computers

Case 1 - Are the Cats Out to Get their Revenge?

The feline parvovirus afflicted only cats before the 1970s. However, with the arrival of the groovy decade, the virus changed just two or three of its surface amino acids, thus allowing it possible to plague the dogs. The picture below reveals a perfect example of biology and computer technology working together. Our understanding of this virus has truly been enhanced with a molecular topography of the structure, made possible only by the x-ray crystallography technique.
