Chromosomes and Genes
To understand what Bioinformatics is all about it is first important to know what chromosomes and genes are.
A chromosome is found in the nucleus and contains some
of an organism's genes. Chromosomes help a cell to keep a large amount of
genetic information neat, organized, and compact. They are made of DNA and protein. 
Genes are found on chromosomes and therefore are also made of DNA. Different genes determine the different characteristics or traits of an organism. A gene is the fundamental unit of heredity.
