Established in June 1998 through an Extramural Associate Research Development Award (EARDA) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Immaculata University's Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) serves faculty and students from all disciplines and across all three Colleges. The Office provides help in finding sources of funding, training sessions in grant preparation, review and oversight of pilot grants, review of proposals for submission to external agencies, books and resources for grant research, writing, and management to faculty and students in all disciplines and at all levels. Memberships to grant opportunity newsletters offer daily information to faculty on current opportunities.
The number of external proposals submitted has risen steadily, and the Office is proudest of the many faculty-mentored student research projects it has funded, first under the EARDA grant and then through University funds. Over the years since its founding, the Office has funded 75 such projects. Student researchers have presented at local, regional, and national professional conferences, garnering recognition and awards. Two students and their mentors have presented at the Council on Undergraduate Research's "Posters on the Hill" in Washington, D.C.
Mentored research has helped student researchers apply their studies in real situations, refine their choices of careers and further study, get graduate school fellowships and assistantships, and promote further research. We are grateful to the mentors who give their time, their expertise, and their guidance and encouragement to this vital aspect of their students' educations.
The Office of Sponsored Research shares faculty and student research information with the University community through its Newsletter: Research in Service of Learning, published semi-annually.
