Academic Research Projects

Faculty Proposal Development

  1. Make an appointment for preliminary discussion with the Department of University Advancement for institution-wide projects, or the Office of Sponsored Research for departmental projects and individual faculty and student research.
  2. Submit a two-page abstract of the project to the appropriate office. The abstract should include the rationale for the project, goals, budget, and timelines. A copy of the abstract accompanied by the cover sheet will be submitted to the vice president for Academic Affairs for consideration. The vice president will forward the abstract to the president for final approval. 
  3. Once you receive approval, write a basic proposal for refinement as required by individual agencies. The Department of University Advancement or the Office of Sponsored Research will assist in preparation and in finalizing the proposal and targeting prospective donors.
  4. Decide on funding sources.
  5. Submit the proposal electronically to either the Department of University Advancement or the Office of Sponsored Research for final editing and typing. They will send the proposal to you for your approval of any changes and then distribute it to the selected agencies.
  6. The Department of University Advancement or the Office of Sponsored Research may contact you for decisions on additional funding sources and will maintain ongoing communication.
  7. Once your proposal is funded, the Department of University Advancement or the Office of Sponsored Research will set up a meeting for you with the Office of Financial Affairs to arrange post-award procedures.

Faculty/Staff Proposal Steps

  2. Submit a one- to two-page abstract of the project to Sister Susan Cronin. The abstract should include the rationale for the project, goals, budget, and timelines. A copy of the abstract accompanied by the cover sheet will be submitted to the vice president for Student Development and Engagement for consideration. The vice president will send the abstract to the president for final approval.
  3. After approval, write the proposal. The Department of University Advancement or the Office of Sponsored Research will assist in preparation and in finalizing the proposal and targeting prospective donors.
  4. Submit the proposal to Sister Susan Cronin for final editing and typing.
  5. Decide on funding sources.
  6. The Department of University Advancement and/or the Office of Sponsored Research will distribute the proposal.
  7. The Department of University Advancement and/or the Office of Sponsored Research will follow up about decisions on additional funding sources.
  8. Ongoing communication with faculty/staff member.
