Having begun her nursing career as a medical-surgical staff/charge nurse at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Knecht then moved to Reading Rehabilitation Hospital as a primary nurse for head trauma. From 1984-1988, she was the staff development instructor for the Pocopson Home in West Chester, PA.
Knecht served the Chester County Intermediate Unit for 17 years as director of practical nursing, supervising the operation of the practical nursing program and other adult educational training programs.
Knecht is an Academy of Nursing Education Fellow and a member of several professional organizations where she holds various leadership positions. She serves as chair of the National League for Nursing’s PN Educator and ad hoc committee; she is an executive committee member for the Chester County Health Care Partnership; she chairs the Pennsylvania Coalition for the Advancement of Nursing Education; and she is a board member of the Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital and the Chester County Neighborhood Health Association. Knecht also served as team chair/program evaluator of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
