Program Overview

In this program, you may earn both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy in five years after graduation from high school.

You will spend your first three years at Immaculata University and then proceed to Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) for the final two years of graduate occupational therapy coursework. You will receive the B.S. in Exercise Science after successful completion of your first year at TJU. You will receive a master’s in occupational therapy from Thomas Jefferson University after successful completion of two years of the TJU graduate occupational therapy program.

As people in the 21st century become increasingly aware of the benefits of good health and fitness habits, the demand for trained practitioners in the field of exercise science will continue to expand. With a strong interdisciplinary background and a science-based major, our well-rounded graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to pursue a variety of different specialties in the exercise field, such as:  

  • Strength and conditioning specialists for sports teams or fitness centers
  • Exercise specialists in cardiac rehabilitation centers
  • Certified exercise physiologists (B.S. or M.S. degree)
  • Occupational therapists
  • Occupational therapy assistants or aides


At Immaculata, you can get a hands-on internship within a specialized area, providing you with invaluable training and solid preparation for graduate studies at TJU. Our close proximity to Philadelphia's finest hospitals, rehabilitation centers, fitness centers, sport training centers and professional sport teams enable our students to engage in learning opportunities that will expand their skills in the latest technology to meet the demands of the 21st century.

Admission Requirements

Admission into this partnership program requires dual acceptance through an interview process and specific guidelines set forth by both universities. You must take pre-calculus or calculus, and three years of science, including biology, as prerequisites. To apply, please submit an essay and an activities resume.

You will also need to meet the following requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or the equivalent
  • Cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Completion with satisfactory grades of 16 units of high school work (as shown on an official high school transcript) including the following minimum number of college preparatory courses:
    • Social studies - 2 units
    • Foreign language - 2 units
    • Mathematics - 2 units
    • Science (1 laboratory) - 2 units
    • Electives - 4 units. The electives may be chosen from any major subjects accepted for graduation in an accredited high school.
  • SAT scores (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math [ERW+M]) of 1270 or higher, or an ACT score of 26 or higher
  • Volunteer/observation hours (at least 25 hours complete at the time of application).
