Students who are preparing to teach in secondary school settings are required to have a field of concentration in one of the following academic subject areas:

• Biology
• Business and Computer Education (K-12)
• Chemistry
• English
• Family and Consumer Science (K-12)
• French (K-12)
• General Science
• History (Social Studies)
• Mathematics
• Music (K-12)
• Psychology (Social Science)
• Sociology (Social Science)
• Spanish (K-12)

Required Courses

The following courses are incorporated into the subject area degree requirements for secondary certification. Students must receive a satisfactory score on the Secondary Education Praxis Examinations to be eligible for teacher certification.

  Note: Students are required to take PSY 324 as part of the social science requirement in the Program of Basic Studies.
