The Department of Fashion-Foods and Nutrition-Dietetics has been preparing professionals in the fields of education and dietetics for the past seventy years. Education for careers in business, both in foods and fashion marketing, was added to the curriculum over twenty years ago. An experienced faculty together with a network of Immaculata University graduates provide educational experiences both in the classroom and in the work environment.

Family and Consumer Sciences

The demand for Family and Consumer Sciences teachers is greater than the supply of undergraduates preparing for these fields. The country faces a challenge because of the low number of people entering the field, early retirements, and the increase in required classes in Family and Consumer Sciences, especially in the state of Pennsylvania. Immaculata is one of the few schools offering this program.

Today's family and consumer sciences education is in a position to equip students with skills and knowledge vital for the 21st century. Immaculata's program offers courses in consumer economics, nutrition, foods, clothing and textiles, human development, personal and family resource management and interior design. Students also take courses necessary to apply for teacher certification. With proper advisement and careful use of electives, students may obtain dual certification in Early Childhood, Elementary and/or Special Education.

Fashion Marketing

Fashion marketing is a diverse field offering a variety of opportunities along many different career paths. The potential for advancement is great for students who are creative, intelligent, highly motivated, and eager to succeed. Immaculata University seeks to provide students with a background in fashion, business and liberal arts. Businesses in the surrounding communities support the program by employing students, thereby affording them opportunities to obtain first-hand experience in the world of retailing.

Nutrition-Dietetics and Food in Business

The Nutrition-Dietetics and Foods in Business majors are designed to prepare you for careers in the nutrition and food industries. Nutrition-Dietetics will provide you with skills in medical nutrition therapy, education, community nutrition, research, and management and can prepare you for application to a dietetic internship. Foods in Business students combine the study of foods and nutrition with a more in-depth approach to business within the food industry.
