Undergraduate Students
In addition to specific education requirements (see Education Department), students preparing for careers in biology or general science teaching will complete all the requirements for the BA degree in biology or the BA degree in general science, whichever is applicable.
Students seeking secondary education certification in biology, will take Earth and Space Science in lieu of one of their biology electives.
It is strongly recommended that general science certification be combined with a certification in one of the traditional natural science disciplines; general science certification can be added to biology certification by taking one additional course in physics.
Post-Baccalaureate Students
Students who currently hold degrees at or above the BA and BS levels and who wish to pursue careers in biology or general science teaching should apply to the education department. The biology department will review all transcripts and outline an individual course of study that will satisfy all the requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education for certification to teach biology and/or general science.
The specific academic requirements and course descriptions for the above programs may be found in the Undergraduate Catalog.
