Where can I get additional ideas?

The Foundation Center is the primary source of information on private foundations in the United States. The Center fosters public understanding of foundations and the development of grant proposals to foundations, collecting, organizing, and disseminating information and conducting training sessions. Their site is multiply linked and can be of great help.

The National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) has funding opportunities available that invite grant or cooperative agreements (a combination of grant and contract) in well-defined scientific areas to accomplish specific program objectives. Complimentary and alternative medicine is an area of growing interest at NIH.

Student, post-doctoral, or clinical opportunities are available.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds research and funding in science and engineering through grants, contracts and cooperative agreements. News and special notices are available on a variety of topics. NSF has received increased funding this year and intends to announce a number of new initiatives in the coming months with special concentration in educational projects.

Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) provides a significant amount of funding for research and training in the area of social and behavioral sciences. To fund and conduct research that will result in the improvement of health.

This one is a good resource for those researching in the areas of nursing, psychology, or music therapy. Beyond funding possibilities, it offers a wealth of information and research.

The Sloan Foundation’s main interests and programs are concentrated in five general areas, two of which are Science & Technology, and Education and Careers in Science and Technology. This is a well mapped-out site.
