Mastrosante Named First Team All-PAC
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata sophomore catcher Carol Mastrosante was named to the First Team All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC), as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, May 6.
The Philadelphia, Pa., native hit .513 to lead the Mighty Macs, starting all 24 games, with a majority of her starting nods behind the plate. Mastrosante amassed 39 hits, including nine doubles, three triples and three home runs. She also scored 11 runs and drove in 16.
This marks Mastrosante’s first all-league plaudit, while she earned PAC Weekly Honor Roll selection on March 31.
Junior Maureen Kelly was selected to the PAC Sportsmanship Team. Kelly played in six games for the Mighty Macs, starting one game at first base. She had one hit during seven plate appearances, one RBI and scored two runs.
Immaculata finished the 2008 slate with a 4-20 overall mark and record of 4-16 in the PAC.
Mighty Macs Drop Season Finale To Marywood
IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University softball team dropped both ends of its season-finale doubleheader to Marywood University, 5-3 and 5-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Immaculata concludes the 2008 slate 4-20 overall and 4-16 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. Marywood improves to 20-18 overall, 10-10 PAC, and clinches he final playoff spot in the PAC Tournament with its two wins this afternoon.
In the first game, the Pacers pushed across two runs in both the top of the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead. The Mighty Macs cut the deficit to 4-2 after scoring two runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Megan Gallagher doubled to left center and came around to score after two wild pitches. Jackie Mullineaux walked and Sara Koloejchick, who came in to pitch run for Mullineaux, advanced to third on the wild pitches and later scored when Jackie Finkbohner singled through the middle.
Immaculata picked up more ground in the bottom of the fifth when Missy Hopely singled for score Melissa Fetter, making the score 4-3. However, Marywood put up in insurance run in the top of the seventh, and held on for the 5-3 victory.
Carol Mastrosante and Sara Holleran were each 2-for-4 during game one to lead Immaculata. Val Rutt-Guerriere (2-10) pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs and striking out one.
Cailtin Hadzimichalis and Kim Flanagan each collected two hits while Miranda Sorber had two RBI during game one. Nikki Belles (9-2) got the win in the circle allowing just two earned runs and striking out two.
In the night cap, Immaculata struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Gallagher drove home Rutt-Guerriere, who had walked earlier in the inning. Marywood tied the game at 1-all in the top of the third when Brittany Davis homered. The Pacers added two more runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth and seventh for the 5-1 win.
Holleran recorded Immaculata’s only hit of the second game. Fetter (2-10) pitched all seven innings allowing five runs and striking out four.
Erika Cook and Megan Haikes were each 3-for-4 with one and two RBI, respectively. Mallory Gable got the win pitching a complete game one-hitter.
Immaculata Drops Doubleheader To Misericordia
IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University softball team fell to Misericordia University by scores of 9-1 and 4-3, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Saturday, April 19.
Immaculata heads into the final week of the season with a 4-18 overall amrk and 4-14 record in the PAC. Misericordia is 23-9 overall, 13-3 in the league.
The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the first, added six runs in the top of the third and drove across one run in the fourth inning to claim the 9-1 victory in five innings. Immaculata scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the second as Sara Holleran, who led off the inning with a single, came around to score.
Carol Mastrosante went 2-for-2, while four other Mighty Macs all registered one hit apiece. Val Rutt-Guerriere took the loss, striking out two.
Molly Martin earned the win for Misericordia. Gina Urbon was 3-for-3 from the plate and drove in five RBI.
Game two was closely contested as both squads got two runs in the second inning. After the Cougars scored two runs in the top of the second, the Mighty Macs answered with two runs of their own, as Melissa Cifaloglio singled in Missy Hopely and Megan Gallagher.
Misericordia broke the 2-all tie in the top of the fourth with one run and added an insurance run in the top of the fifth.
Immaculata struck for one run in the bottom of the sixth as Hopely led off the inning with a triple down the left field line, and scored on Gallagher's ground out.
Hopely was 3-for-3 in game two to lead Immaculata. Melissa Fetter took the loss in the circle, while only allowing one earned run and striking out three.
Katherine Lucenti pitched the final 4.2 innings for the Cougars to earn the win.
Immaculata plays its season-finale on Saturday, April 26, when it hosts Marywood at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
Softball Splits With Centenary
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Immaculata University softball team split its doubleheader with Centenary College on Friday, April 18. The Mighty Macs won the first game, 6-5, but could not pull off the sweep, as they fell to the Lady Cyclones, 5-4, in the nightcap.
After game one began with three scoreless innings, Immaculata (4-16, 4-12) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning off of a homerun by Carol Mastrosante to lead things off.
Mastrosante hit her second straight homer in the fifth inning as the Mighty Macs exploded for five runs to take a 6-0 lead. Melinda Monastra singled and then stole both second and third, before Jackie Mullineaux doubled to score Monastra. Melissa Fetter singled to score JenaRae Carabasi, who pitch ran for Mullineaux, and Mastrosante's homer brought Fetter across. Valerie Rutt-Guerriere and Sara Holleran both doubled, as Holleran got the RBI.
Centenary (8-17, 3-11) picked up some ground, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth but remained behind going into the bottom half of the seventh. The Lady Cyclones rallied for three runs, but is was not enough, as Immaculata took game one, 6-5.
Rutt-Guerriere picked up the win, while Sarah Olsen pitched five innings for Centenary and took the loss.
In game two, the Lady Cyclones took an early lead scoring three runs in the first innings, but the Mighty Macs got one back in the second to cut Centenary's advantage to two. Centenary answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-1.
Immaculata crept back in the game during the final two innings with one run in the sixth and two more runs in the top of the seventh, but left runners at second and third.
Fetter took the loss in game two, while only allowing two earned runs, and Kristin Durborow picked up the win while striking out seven.
The Mighty Macs are back in action on Saturday, April 19, hosting Misericordia. Game time is 1 p.m.
Immaculata Drops Doubleheader To Eastern
ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Immaculata University softball team fell to Eastern University, 6-2 and 5-4, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 15.
The Mighty Macs fell to 3-15 overall and 3-11 in the PAC, while the Eagles improved to 15-14 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
In the first game, Carol Mastrosante collected three hits and knocked in one run for the Mighty Macs. Jackie Finkbohner went 2-for-3, while Melissa Fetter drove in Immaculata's run in the top of the third inning, while also crossing the plate herself in the top of the seventh.
Alissa Brubaker went 4-for-4 with one RBI and scored two runs to pace the Eagles. Stephanie Weaver was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored, while Raychel Weis and Megan Favazza each recorded two hits.
Valerie Rutt-Guerriere suffered the loss after allowing six runs (five earned), while Weis earned the victory, alllowing eight hits and striking out four.
In the second game of the twinbill, Finkbohner again collected two hits and one RBI, while Rutt-Guerriere recorded one hit and two RBI. Natalie Yodis amassed one hit, one RBI and scored one run.
Ashley Lewis allowed four runs and struck out five for Eastern to earn the win, while Fetter allowed five unearned runs and struck out two to take the loss.
Immaculata travels to Centenary on Friday, April 18, at 3 p.m.
Gwynedd-Mercy Takes Two From Immaculata
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata softball dropped a pair of Pennsylvania Athletic Conference games to Gwynedd-Mercy, 5-1 and 3-0, on Friday afternoon.
The Mighty Macs fall to 3-13 overall and 3-9 in the PAC, and Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 14-7, 10-2 PAC.
In game one, the Griffins scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and added an insurance run in the second. The Mighty Macs pushed one run across the plate in the bottom of the first, but come not get another run across the rest of the game, stranding seven runners on base.
Immaculata had back-to-back doubles by Carol Mastrosante and Valerie Rutt-Guerriere in the bottom half of the first inning to score the Mighty Macs only run.
Mastrosante and Jackie Finkbohner both finished game one 2-for-4. Rutt-Guerriere was 1-for-2 with the RBI. Rutt-Guerriere allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits in the circle for Immaculata. Rutt-Guerriere also held the Griffins hitless the final four innings of the game.
Jayme DiLeonardo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Griffins, while Jenn Smull amassed two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Susan Miller pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits to get the win.
In the nightcap, it was a one-run game until the Griffins scored two runs in the top of the sixth innings for the 3-0 victory. Gwynedd-Mercy led 1-0 after scoring a run in the third.
The Mighty Macs mustered just three hits, one each from Mastrosante, Sara Holleran and Megan Gallagher.
Melissa Fetter pitched the complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits to suffer the loss. Heather Morgan pitched the complete-game shutout for the Griffins to earn the win.
DiLeonardo again went 2-for-4 with one run scored, while Kate Cassidy collected two hits and one RBI.
Immaculata will be off until Tuesday, April 15, when it travels to Eastern at 3 p.m.
Immaculata Comes Up Short Against Penn State Berks
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Penn State Berks scored one run in the top of the seventh in game two to break an 8-all tie in a 9-8 win, and the Nittany Lions pushed five runs across in game one to sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Immaculata, 5-1, Wednesday afternoon.
The Mighty Macs drop to 3-11 this season while the Nittany Lions improve their record to 5-15.
Penn State Berks sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning as the Nittany Lions scored six runs on six hits. Immaculata answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the first as Megan Gallagher and Melissa Fetter both singled to begin the inning. Carol Mastrosante had a sacrifice fly to score Gallagher, and Valerie Rutt-Guerriere doubled in Fetter.
Each team scored two runs in their part of the second inning. Immaculata held Penn State Berks scoreless in the top of the third inning, and the Mighty Macs tied the game at 8-all with four runs in the bottom of the third.
Jackie Finkbohner reached on an error to lead off the inning and Natalie Yodis followed with a single. Jackie Mullineaux singled up the middle as Finkbohner came around to score. Two batters later, Fetter doubled to score Yodis and advance Mullineaux to third. Mastrosante then singled to clear the bases and cap a four-run inning for the Mighty Macs.
The next three innings was a pitchers dual as Rutt-Guerriere limited Penn State Berks to just three hits, and Immaculata was held to just one hit.
The Nittany Lions led off the seventh inning with a single through the middle from Brittany Hicks, and Alexis Graham reached on a fielder’s choice as Immaculata tried to get the lead runner at second but there was an error on the throw. Hicks then advanced to third on another fielder’s choice as Graham was out at second. Gabrielle Ruiz-Salveson then reached on a bunt single to load the bases for Penn State Berks. Brandi Hankins then walked to move the runners along and push Hicks across with the go-ahead run.
Rutt-Guerriere (1-6) suffered the loss. Ashley Warner (4-6) picked up her second win for the afternoon, allowing no hits in her four innings of work.
In game one, Penn State Berks put up one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth and seventh inning, respectively, for the 5-1 win.
Immaculata broke through with a run in the bottom of the fourth as Mastrosante led off the inning with a triple and came around to score, but the Mighty Macs couldn’t get anything going the rest of the way.
Fetter (2-5) pitched the complete game allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out eight. Warner pitched a complete-game one-hitter for Penn State Berks.
For the afternoon, Mastrosante was 4-for-6 with 4 RBI and Rutt-Guerriere was 3-for-7 with 2 RBI.
Immaculata will be back in action on Friday, April 11, when it hosts Gwynedd-Mercy at 3 p.m.
Immaculata Drops Doubleheader To Neumann
IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University’s softball team fell to Neumann College, 10-2 and 14-6, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Monday, April 7.
In game one, Sara Holleran and Missy Hopely recorded the only hits for Immaculata as Angela Sebasto tossed a complete game two-hitter for the Knights. Val Rutt-Guerriere suffered the loss for the Mighty Macs after she allowed 10 runs in seven innings.
In game two, Melissa Fetter went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, including a homerun in the fourth inning. Megan Gallagher, Carol Mastrosante and Hopely each amassed two hits.
The Mighty Macs led 4-3 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. Jackie Finkbohner walked and two batters later, Fetter tripled to score Finkbohner. Mastrosante then singled to push Fetter across the plate.
Neumann scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to outdistance itself.
Fetter took the loss in the circle in the second game, allowing 14 runs over seven innings and struck out five.
Immaculata will be home on Wednesday, April 9, when it takes on Penn State Berks at 3 p.m.

Fetter Cops PAC Pitcher Of The Week Accolades
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University junior Melissa Fetter was honored as the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 30, it was announced by the conference office, while sophomore Carol Mastrosante earned a spot on the Player of the Week Honor Roll.
Fetter, who appeared in three games for the Mighty Macs last week, went 2-0 in conference play, lifting Immaculata to its first conference win of the season on Friday against Cabrini, 9-1. The Springfield, Pa., native, tossed a complete-game, five-hitter against the Cavaliers, and struck out three.
The following day against Rosemont, Fetter pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing only one hit and striking out nine. She had a no-hitter going through 4.1 innings that was broken up in the bottom of the fifth by the Ramblers Kaitlin Rogers. Fetter also helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the game.
In the two PAC games, Fetter had a 0.82 ERA over 11 innings, allowing just six hits, one run and 12 strikeouts. She was also 9-for-18 from the plate for a .500 batting average with two doubles and one triple during Immaculata’s four PAC games. She also drove in nine runs.
Mastrosante batted .714 for the week, including five runs, three doubles, two triples and six RBI. She went 11-for-14 (.786) in Immaculata's four PAC games, with five RBI and five runs scored. She finished 5-for-6 against Rosemont with 4 RBI and three runs as the Mighty Macs earned their first sweep of the season. Her 3-for-4 effort in the second game against Cabrini helped Immaculata earn its first win of the season.
Immaculata takes a break from the conference slate when it travels to Northampton Community College on Tuesday, April 1, at 3 p.m.
Immaculata Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From Rosemont
ROSEMONT, Pa. – Immaculata University swept a softball doubleheader over Rosemont College on Saturday with a pair of convincing victories. The Mighty Macs topped the Ramblers, 20-1, in game one and 14-0 in game two, one-hitting Rosemont in the second tilt.
Junior Valerie Rutl-Guerriere (1-3) threw five innings in game one to record the win. She allowed six hits and struck out seven while allowing no walks.
Melissa Cifaloglio was 4-for-5 with six RBI and two runs scored, and Carol Mastrosante went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Melissa Fetter was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Melinda Monastra scored three runs for the Mighty Macs, while going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In the nightcap, Fetter (2-2) started and pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit, walking four and striking out nine to earn her second straight victory of the season. Fetter has a no-hitter going through 4.1 innings when Kaitlin Rogers singled in the bottom of the fifth to break it up.
Fetter helped her own cause, going 3-for4 with two runs scored. Sara Holleran went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI while Mastrosante was 2-for-2 with two RBI. JenaRae Carabasi was 2-for-3 at the plate and Jackie Mullineaux was 2-for-5. Megan Gallagher tallied three RBI and Monastra drove in two runs.
Rogers took the loss for Rosemont in game one. Tammy Do suffered the loss in the second game. Do also had two of the seven hits on the afternoon for the Ramblers, going 2-for-2 in the first contest.
Immaculata’s softball squad travels to Northampton Community College on Tuesday, April1, at 3 p.m.
Immaculata Earns Split With Cabrini
RADNOR, Pa. – Sara Holleran went 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Melissa Fetter tossed a complete game, five-hitter in the second game to silence Cabrini, 9-1, in six innings. However, the host Cavaliers hit a walk-off home run to take game one, 9-8, Friday afternoon.
Holleran’s first RBI of the game put Immaculata (1-7, 1-5 PAC) out in front 1-0 at the end of the first inning. Cabrini (7-10, 4-2 PAC) answered with a run in the bottom of the second, and Fetter kept the visitors bats quiet the rest of the game while the Mighty Macs scored in each of the last four innings to build a 9-1 lead.
Fetter (1-3) allowed just one run on five hits and struck out three in the night cap. The Cavaliers sprinkled three hits and left five runners on base over the final four innings, but could not muster a run as the Mighty Macs kept increasing their lead, as Immaculata earned its first league win of the season and halted a seven-game losing streak in the process.
Fetter was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored to help her cause.
Carol Mastrosante finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Valerie Rutl-Guerriere, Megan Gallagher, Missy Hopely and Melissa Cifaloglio each registered two hits in the game. Rutl-Guerriere drove in two runs and Gallagher finished with one RBI.
In game one, Cabrini plated two runners in the bottom of the first inning. The visitors quickly responded with a four-run inning in the top of the second. Jackie Mullineaux doubled driving in Hopely and Rutl-Guerriere, and Mullineaux and Melinda Monastra later came around to score on a Fetter double.
Immaculata added another run in the top of the third before Cabrini tallied two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run homer by Kristie Sandefur.
The Mighty Macs continued to extend their advantage with one run in the four and two more runs in the fifth, keeping the Cavaliers scoreless in the bottom of each inning for an 8-4 lead heading into the sixth inning.
Cheri Johns, who came on in relief of starter Rachel Davis in the fifth inning, held the Mighty Macs to only one hit in the scoreless top of the sixth, while the Cavaliers exploded for four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 8-all.
Immaculata could not muster a run in the top of the seventh, leaving Gallagher at second. Johns flew out to the right fielder to start the bottom of the seventh for Cabrini. The Cavaliers next batter, Liz Zimmer, hit a walk-off homerun to lift Cabrini to the 9-8 win.
Mastrosante finished game one 3-for-4, while Fetter, who was 2-for-5 from the plate, drove in a team-high four RBI. Mullineaux finished with 2 RBI and Jackie Finkbohner added an RBI.
Rutl-Guerriere (0-4) threw 6.1 innings in the first game and allowed 12 hits and struck out eight.
Immaculata will be back in action tomorrow, March 29, at Rosemont College at 1 p.m.
Softball Drops Both Ends Of Doubleheader To Washington
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Immaculata was two-hit in its opener and Washington rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two, as the Mighty Macs fell, 2-1 and 6-5, respectively, to Washington College on Wednesday, March 26.
Washington’s (5-7) pitching held Immaculata (0-6) to two hits in the first game, as Emily Adams had a perfect game broken up in the fifth inning. Washington College put one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning as the Shorewomen’s lead-off hitter came around to score.
Valerie Rutl-Guerriere broke up the perfect game in the top of the fifth inning when she singled up the middle to begin the inning. Sara Holleran then singled through the right side advancing Rutl-Guerriere to second. Carol Mastrosante reached on the fielder’s choice as Shana Kehoe, who came in to run for Holleran, was out at second on the play, and Rutl-Guerriere reached third.
Rutl-Guerriere then came around to score on a throwing error by the third baseman as Melinda Monastra, who had reached on the fielder’s choice, advanced to second on the error and Mastrosante ended up at third. Immaculata would leave those two runners on base, but the Mighty Macs tied the game, 1-1.
The Shorewomen scored a single run in the bottom of the sixth for the 2-1 win.
Rutl-Guerriere (0-3) took the loss inside the circle. She pitched six innings, allowing one earned one on five hits.
In the night cap, Washington jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and Immaculata responded with a run in the second and four runs in the fifth, to put the Mighty Macs ahead, 5-4.
Holleran, Mastrosante and Missy Hopely each produced run-scoring hits in the fifth that propelled the Mighty Macs into the lead. Gabby Roth led off the frame with a walk, and after Megan Gallagher struck out, Rutl-Guerriere singled down the right field line, moving Roth over to second.
Holleran then singled home Roth and advanced Rutl-Guerriere to second. Mastrosante hit a double to left field, scoring Rutl-Guerriere and advancing Holleran to third. Hopely then doubled, scoring the two runners.
Washington pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth to steal a 6-5 decision as the Mighty Macs could not get the equalizer.
Melissa Fetter (0-3) started and lasted six innings, allowing six runs on eight hits.
Tricia Carroll (1-0) picked up the win in relief, throwing the final 2.2 innings, allowing only two hits. Cailtin McElroy started and worked 4.1 innings for the Shorewomen, giving up five runs on seven hits and striking out two.
Mastrosante finished game two 4-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Holleran was a combined 3-for-7 on the day with one RBI.
Immaculata gets back to the conference slate on Friday, March 28, when it travels to Cabrini. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Softball Drops A Pair To Cedar Crest
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Cedar Crest pushed across the winning run in the top of the fifth inning in game one and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third winning in the nightcap to take both ends of a PAC doubleheader against Immaculata, 1-0 and 2-0, respectively, Friday afternoon.
Game one was an epic pitchers duel between Immaculata’s Melissa Fetter and Cedar Crest’s Allison Holland. Each tossed a complete game with Holland earning her third win of the season, yielding no runs on five hits. Meanwhile, Fetter (0-2) struck out six batters and allowed one run on three hits. Fetter had a perfect game broken up in the top of the fifth inning when Sarah Campbell reached on an error.
Campbell proved to be the game winner when Alyssa Kabat singled her home two batters later, breaking a 0-0 tie. Immaculata (0-4, 0-4 PAC) had its chances in the bottom of the fifth and again in the bottom of the seventh, but each time the Mighty Macs left two runners on base.
Missy Hopely finished 2-for-3 in game one to lead the Mighty Macs.
Cedar Crest (4-5, 2-0) took a 1-0 lead after Tasha Breiner had a leadoff walk in the top of the third. Lisa Cassavaugh came in to pinch-run for Breiner and was advanced to second Maria Mallery. Cassavaugh advanced to third on a wild pitch and then came around to score on another wild pitch.
The Falcons added an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning as Holland helped herself out with a lead-off double. Campbell followed that with a single. Alyssa Bonner grounded out but advanced both runners and Holland scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Kabat.
Valerie Rutl-Guerriere pitched a complete game in the night cap, allowing two hits and two runs over seven innings. The Falcons’ Holland (4-3) pitched another complete game shutout, allowing just four hits.
Immaculata will try to get on the winning track on Wednesday, March 26, at Washington College at 3 p.m.
Immaculata Falls In Conference Opener
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Alvernia College swept a softball doubleheader from Immaculata University Wednesday afternoon, taking the opening game, 11-3, and the night cap, 8-0. It marked the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
After Alvernia (5-4, 2-0 PAC) put three runs on the board in the top of the second, Sara Holleran led off the bottom part of the inning with a single and came around to score when Carol Mastrosante hit a homerun.
Immaculata (0-2, 0-2 PAC) tied the game at 3-all in the bottom of the third with a lead-off triple by Megan Gallagher, and Melissa Fetter followed with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Alvernia exploded with three runs in the fourth to blow open a 3-3 ballgame. The Crusaders went on to add two runs in the fifth, and put the finishing touches on the Mighty Macs with three more runs in the sixth, which ended the contest after Immaculata failed to score.
Mastrosante finished 2-for-2 with the two-run homer. Gallagher, Jackie Finkbohner, Holleran, Missy Hopely and Melissa Cifaloglio each had a hit.
Melissa Fetter (0-1) pitched all six innings, giving up eight earned runs and striking out six in the loss.
Emily Williams was 4-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored for the Crusaders. Williams also pitched all six innings in the circle, allowing three runs and striking out eight Mighty Macs.
In the night cap, Alvernia’s Michelle Jensen tossed a perfect game. The Crusaders scored two runs in the first, single runs in the second, third and fifth and three tallies in the fourth for the 8-0 decision.
Val Rutl-Guerriere took the loss. She pitched a complete game, allowing 13 hits and four earned runs while striking out two.
Sorrentino, Michelle Kassab and Jackie Rhoads all went 3-for-4 for Alvernia.
Immaculata will be back in action on Friday when they host Cedar Crest at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader.
Mighty Macs Picked To Finish 10th In Preseason Poll
ASTON, Pa. – The Immaculata University softball team was picked to finish 10th in the 2008 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason coaches’ poll Wednesday. The Mighty Macs collected a total of 32 points in the process.
Misericordia University was selected to repeat as conference champions, earning 118 points and eight of the 11 possible first-place votes. Neumann College, who earned 108 points, including three first-point nods, was picked second, while Cabrini College was predicted third with 99 points.
Alvernia College (81) and Eastern University (77) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Marywood University (65), Gwynedd-Mercey College (53), Centenary College (47), Cedar Crest College (44) and Rosemont College (11) round out the preseason poll in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 11th, respectively.
The Mighty Macs begin the 2008 season on Tuesday, March 11, when they host Philadelphia Biblical University in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
Rutt-Guerriere Named All-PAC
Sophomore Valerie Rutt-Guerriere was selected as an All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Honorable Mention honoree. The award was announced on Tuesday, May 8, at the conference office in Aston, PA.
Guerriere led the Mighty Macs with 16 RBI and was tied for second with 24 hits. She scored 11 runs, collected five doubles and belted one home run. She amassed four multi-hit games, including a season-best three hits twice. Guerriere also threw three innings and allowed three runs - one earned - for Immaculata.
Senior Danielle Durso was named to the Push the Rock All-PAC Sportsmanship team.
The Mighty Macs finished the 2007 campaign with a record of 4-21-1 overall and 4-18 in the PAC.
