Dickinson First Mighty Mac named to Philadelphia Inquirer All-Academic Team

Senior Kelly Dickinson has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Lacrosse Team. The team honored student-athletes who were best able to balance athletics with academics and excel at both. Dickinson becomes the first Mighty Mac to be so honored. She was one of just 12 women’s lacrosse players selected in a process which included nominees from over 20 area institutions covering all levels of NCAA athletics.

Dickinson carried a 3.74 grade point average while competing in two sports, while playing field hockey in the fall and lacrosse in the spring. She received the athletic department’s highest honor at the annual Awards Banquet, taking home the Outstanding Scholar Athlete Award.

A biology/chemistry/pre-veterinary medicine major, Dickinson is a member of Immaculata’s Honor Society, the Sigma Zeta Honor Society, and this spring was inducted into both Kappa Gamma Pi and Delta Epsilon Sigma. She is a Presidential Scholar and has been on the dean’s list six times in her four years at Immaculata.

Away from the classroom, this student-athlete has been a member and sister of Omicron Pi Epsilon, serving a number of roles, including Vice-President for the 2004-05 season, and she is the student council treasurer for the Class of 2006.

Her leadership skills were evident on the field hockey and lacrosse fields as well. In her junior and senior seasons, she served as the captain of both teams, and was the unquestioned leader on the field for the Mighty Macs.

Dickinson received the Team MVP award from the field hockey team in 2003 and from the lacrosse team in 2005 and has been annually recognized on the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

This past fall, she finished sixth on the field hockey team with six points, despite playing defense. In lacrosse, she finished fourth on the team in goals, despite missing half of the team’s games due to a knee injury.
