Men’s Tennis Receives PAC Team Sportsmanship Award

 

ASTON, Pa. – The Immaculata men’s tennis team received the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award, as announced by the PAC office today.

 

The award is presented to the team that most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship, based on the ideals of the PAC and its Code of Conduct.

 

Student-athletes from each sport voted on a variety of criteria, including respect from others teams’ fans, performance of game management staff, coaches’ actions and behavior and the overall atmosphere of the game.

 

Men’s tennis becomes the second team to earn a PAC Team Sportsmanship Award this season after Immaculata’s volleyball team earned the award in the fall.

 

DeYoung Named To PAC Sportsmanship Team

ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University’s Bobby DeYoung was named to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Tennis Sportsmanship Team, as announced by the conference office on April 28.

DeYoung played all but one match at the No. 1 singles position for the Mighty Macs, and played at the top doubles spot in every match except one.

The men's tennis team picked up the three-year old program's first win when it defeated Arcadia University, 5-4, in the season finale for the Mighty Macs.

 

 

 

Immaculata Picks Up First Win Against Arcadia

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's tennis team picked up the three-year old program's first win this afternoon as it defeated Arcadia University, 5-4, in the season finale for the Mighty Macs.

Dave Harlan defeated James Liu at the No. 3 singles position, 6-3, 6-2, to even the match at 4-all, with only Brett Bickhardt's match still going on. Bickhardt, playing fourth singles, won the first set 7-5, and put Eshaaq Mohtasebzadah away 6-2 in the second set, to secure the win for Immaculata.

Bobby DeYoung fell to Adrell Dalsan, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, and Cordell Fantroy dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Bart Blankenship at No. 2 singles.

The Mighty Macs dropped both doubles matches, as DeYoung and Harlan fell 8-3 at No. 1 to Dalsan and Blankenship. Andre Brooks and Michael Pancoast lost a close 8-5 match at No. 2 doubles to Liu and Mohtasebzadah.

Immaculata picked up wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and 6 singles by Arcadia defaults.

Immaculata concludes the season 1-10 overall and 0-7 in the PAC. Arcadia drops to 1-11.

 

Immaculata Drops 9-0 Decision To PSU Harrisburg

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's tennis team fell to Penn State Harrisburg, 9-0, in a non-conference match on Wednesday, April 16.

Bobby DeYoung pushed his match at No. 1 singles to 6-2, 6-2 against Phil Tarkington, while Brett Bickhardt took one game during each set as he dropped his match at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, to Alex Herr.

Cordell Fantroy, playing at the No. 2 singles position, lost the first set 6-1 and fell 6-0 in the second to Donny Smith. Michael Pancoast lost a close first set 6-3 and the second set 6-0 at No. 4 singles to Justin Berrier.

The Mighty Macs (0-10) return to action on Tuesday, April 22, when they host Arcadia in the season finale for Immaculata. First serve is set for 4 p.m.

 

Eastern Gets By Immaculata, 9-0

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University men’s tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Eastern University on Tuesday in its Pennsylvania Athletic Conference finale.

Immaculata sits at 0-9 overall and finishes its conference slate 0-7. Eastern improves to 3-12 overall and 2-5 in the league.

The Eagles were able to nab the early lead after winning the three doubles points. Dave Harlan and Brett Bickhardt went down 8-3 to Sean McGuinness and Dan Wilson at No. 2 doubles.

Bobby DeYoung battled to a 6-1, 6-1 setback at the No. 1 singles position, while Cordell Fantroy lost to McGuinness at the No. 3 position by the same margin. After having the early lead in the first set, Bickhardt dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Jonathan Falcone at the No. 5 singles spot.

Immaculata will be back on the court tomorrow, April 16, when it hosts Penn State Harrisburg at 4 p.m.

 

Immaculata Drops 9-0 Decision To Marywood

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University's men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Marywood University in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday afternoon, April 12.

Immaculata slips to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the PAC, while Marywood stays perfect at 11-0, 7-0 PAC.

Bobby DeYoung lost a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Kyle McGee at No. 1 singles, while Andre Brooks suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Joe Domider at No. 6 singles. In doubles action, the tandem of DeYoung and Dave Harlan lost to McGee and Dan Reyonlds 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.

The Mighty Macs return to action on Tuesday, April 15, when they host Eastern University. First serve is set for 3:30 pm.

 

Men's Tennis Downed 9-0 By Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's tennis team fell to Chestnut Hill College, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon.

Immaculata is now 0-7 this season and Chestnut Hill improved to 7-6.

Immaculata pushed the No. 5 and 6 singles matches to third sets, as Brett Bickhardt and Andre Brooks won their first sets of the year, and forced the Griffins to rally for the sweep. At the No. 5 spot, Bickhardt won the opening set 6-3, but Kyle DeRiemer won the next set 6-3 to force the tiebreaker, which DeRiemer won 10-6.

Brooks won his opening set from Reese Brown 6-1, but Brown rallied for the 6-3, 10-3 win in the closing sets.

The Mighty Macs fell in the remaining singles matches. Carson Richter topped Bobby DeYoung 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles flight. At the No. 2 position, Cordell Fantroy was shut out by Shane Lesher 6-0, 6-0. Dave Harlan and Michael Pancoast fell at the No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively, by scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Immaculata came the closest to recording a point at No. 3 doubles, however, Chestnut Hill's DeRiemer and Mike Maccherone took an 8-5 victory from Bickhardt and Fantroy.

The men’s tennis team hosts Gwynedd-Mercy College on Friday, April 11, in a 3:00 p.m. match.

 

Men's Tennis Falters At Cabrini, 8-0

RADNOR, Pa. - Immaculata University's men's tennis team dropped an 8-0 decision to Cabrini College on Tuesday, April 8, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match.

Immaculata falls to 0-6 on the season and 0-5 in the PAC. Cabrini evens its record at 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the league.

Bobby DeYoung fell to Mingkuang Luo, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles position, while Andre Brooks fell to Tejas Ghandi at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-2.

The tandem of DeYoung and Dave Harlan dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Luo and Drew Brandsetter, 8-2.

The Mighty Macs take a break from conference action on Thursday, April 10, when they travel to Chestnut Hill. First serve is set for 4 pm.

 

Men's Tennis Drops Match To Neumann, 9-0

ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University’s men’s tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Neumann College on Saturday, April 5.

Neumann improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, while Immaculata fell to 0-5, 0-5 this season.

Bobby DeYoung fell 6-1, 6-0 to Christopher Brown at the No. 1-singles position, while Michael Pancoast fell to Steve Klenk, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 5 spot. Cordell Fantroy, playing in the No. 4 spot, fell to Dan Harnos, 8-1, in an 8-game pro-set. The tandem of Fantroy and Brett Bickhardt fell to Barry Harvey and Harnos, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.

Immaculata returns to action on Tuesday, April 8, when it travels to Cabrini College. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.

 

Men’s Tennis Falls to Albright, 8-1

 

READING, Pa. – Brett Bickhardt and Michael Pancoast managed a win at No. 3 doubles for Immaculata University’s men’s tennis squad. However, the Mighty Macs fell on the road to Albright College by a score of 8-1.

Bickhardt and Pancoast downed Jonathan Hong and Jason Lefkoe, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles to capture the point for the Mighty Macs.

Dave Harlan, playing his first match of the season at the No. 1 singles position, forced his first set into a tie-breaker. He lost the tie-breaker 7-2, and eventually fell to David Scherler, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0. Bobby DeYoung, at the No. 2 position, dropped his match to Yoshi Otsuka, 6-3, 6-3.

Cordell Fantroy fell 6-3, 6-1 to Kevin Gauby, and Bickhardt dropped his match, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 3 and 4 singles positions, respectively. Andre Brooks dropped his No. 5 singles match, 6-1, 6-0, while Pancoast fell to Hong at the No. 6 spot, 10-5.

Immaculata will be at Neumann on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against the Knights.

 

Men’s Tennis Falls To Gwynedd-Mercy

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University’s men’s tennis team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy College, 9-0, on Wednesday, April 2, in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action.

Immaculata slips to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the PAC, while Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 4-2 and 2-1.

Bobby DeYoung dropped a 6-2, 6-2, decision to Scott Campbell at No. 1 singles, in the most contested match of the afternoon. Dave Harlan, Brett Bickhardt, Cordell Fantroy and Michael Pancoast all won one game in their singles matches. DeYoung and Harlan lost, 8-2, at the No. 1 doubles spot to Campbell to Chris Balicki.

The Mighty Macs are back on the court tomorrow against Albright in Reading, Pa. First serve is 3:30 p.m.

 

Tennis Match Against Penn State Berks Postponed

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata's men's tennis match against Penn State Berks, scheduled for this afternoon, Monday, March 31, has been postponed. No make-up date has been scheduled.

 

Men’s Tennis Falls At Misericordia, 9-0

 

DALLAS, Pa. – The Immaculata University men’s tennis team fell to Misericordia University, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match.

The Mighty Macs (0-2, 0-2 PAC) began the afternoon dropping the three doubles matches. Bobby DeYoung and Dave Harlan fell at the No. 1 position, 8-5. Cordell Fantroy and Brett Bickhardt fell, 8-2, at the No. 2 spot, while Andre Brooks and Michael Pancoast, playing in the No. 3 position, dropped the match 8-1.

Pancoast, playing in the No. 6 singles position, had one of the closest matches of the afternoon, dropping the first set, 6-4, and falling in the second set, 6-3. DeYoung, Immaculata’s top singles player, lost by scores of 6-2 and 6-4, while Harlan fell in the No. 2 singles spot, 6-3, 6-2. Bickhardt was the other Mighty Mac to win a game, as he fell 6-1, 6-2.

Immaculata will play Penn State-Berks on Monday, March 31, at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match.

 

Tennis Match Against Eastern Postponed

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata's men's tennis match against Eastern University, scheduled for this afternoon, March 27, at the Immaculata University tennis courts, has been postponed. No make-up date has been scheduled.

 

Men's Tennis Drops Opener To Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Immaculata University’s men’s tennis team dropped its season opener, 9-0, to Alvernia College on Thursday, March 13, in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference opener for both programs.

Bobby DeYoung fell 6-0, 6-1 to Zachary Lockwood at the No. 1-singles position, while Dave Harlan fell to Phillip Synder, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 2 spot. The tandem of DeYoung and Harlan fell to Ryan Lineaweaver and Longckwood, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.

Immaculata returns to action on Thursday, March 27, when it hosts Eastern University in the home opener. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.

 

 

Tennis Picked Eighth In Preseason Poll

 

ASTON, Pa. - Immaculata University's men's team was selected to finish eighth in the 2008 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason poll Tuesday as voted on by the league’s head coaches. The Mighty Macs garnered a total of 13 points.

Defending champion Alvernia College is the preseason favorite to capture the crown, earning 60 points and capturing five of the possible eight first-place votes. Cabrini College, the 2007 conference runner-up, earned 54 points, and picked up one first-place vote, to finish second in the poll.

Marywood University (48) and Eastern University (34) received the remaining two first-place votes, finishing third and fifth, respectively.

Neumann College (39), Gwynedd-Mercy College (23) and Misericordia University (17) rounded out the preseason poll in fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

The Mighty Macs open the 2008 season on Tuesday, March 11, at home against Philadelphia Biblical at 3 p.m.

 

Mighty Macs Fall In Season Finale

 

Immaculata University men's tennis fell to Arcadia University 8-1 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, April 14, in Glenside, PA. It was the season finale for the Mighty Macs (0-9, 0-8 PAC).

 

Freshman Nick Tarlecki earned the lone win for Immaculata with a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Mike Catalano at #4 singles, while senior Kris Behm fell to Clifton Krausz 6-1, 6-2, at #6 singles.

 

In doubles action, the duo of sophomore Bill Dean and Tarlecki dropped an 8-1 decision to Kevin Langner and Chris Belden at #2 doubles.
