Sim Receives Second Team All-PAC Honors
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Sim was selected to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Second Team, as announced by the league office on Monday, May 5. This marks the second consecutive season Sim has earned second team All-PAC honors.
Sim started all 13 games for the Mighty Macs, playing 791:53 in the game to record an overall record of 3-10. He made 233 saves for a .597 save percentage and registered 11.90 goals against (GAA). He amassed 20 or more saves during six games during 2008, including recording a season-best 24 saves against Elizabethtown and Cabrini. Sim also scooped up 31 ground balls during the season.
Junior Eric Royar was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team. Royar played in all 13 games for the Mighty Macs, starting 11 on defense. He collected 12 ground balls and caused six turnovers.
Immaculata finished the 2008 campaign with a mark of 3-10 and 2-6 in the PAC. The Mighty Macs captured the first program on March 29 at Misericordia, as they handed the Cougars an 8-5 defeat.
Hartney Cops PAC Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata sophomore midfielder Tom Hartney was selected to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Honor Roll as announced by the league office on Monday, April 28. It marked the second time this season that Hartney has earned honor roll recognition.
A native of Norwood, Pa., Hartney notched nine goals and one assist in two games for the Mighty Macs. In a 14-13 triple overtime loss to Neumann, Hartney posted a career-high seven goals. Earlier in the week against Eastern, Hartney registered two goals and one assist in a 12-9 loss.
Hartney finished the 2008 season with 26 goals and 10 assists for a total of 36 points, tied for the team lead.
Brian Triolo from Centenary College captured the league’s player of the week honor, while Casey Grugan from Cabrini College earned honor roll mention with Hartney.
Immaculata Drops Finale In Triple Overtime To Neumann, 14-13
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University’s Tom Hartney registered a career high with seven goals, but it wasn’t enough as Neumann College (3-12, 3-5 PAC) handed the Mighty Macs a 14-13 triple-overtime loss Saturday, April 28, in the season finale for both schools.
Hartney scored seven goals while Zach Krytzer finished with five points, his only goal the game-typing one with 13 seconds left in regulation. However, Neumann’s Charles Rudolf spoiled the performance, netting the game-winner with 1:48 to go in the third extra session for the Knights.
Trailing 13-11 in the closing minute of the contest, Geoff Lorentz scored on a Brendan Dinneen pass with 52 seconds remaining to bring the Mighty Macs within one. Krytzer scored his one goal of the afternoon as he charged down the field and zoomed the ball past Neumann keeper Jake Boulay to send the game into overtime.
The game was nip and tuck during the first 25 minutes as neither team built a lead larger than two. With the score tied at 4-all, Neumann’s Kyle Garder scored with 8:58 remaining in the second quarter to begin a four-run goal for the Knights. Neumann took a 9-6 advantage into halftime.
The Knights scored the first tally of the second half as Gardner again found the back of the net to give them a four-goal lead. Spurred by Dinneen’s two goals, Immaculata scored three of the next four goals, but bring the Mighty Macs back within two, 11-9, with 3:37 remaining in the third period.
Neumann was ahead, 12-9, heading into the final quarter when Hartney netted his final two goals of the afternoon, putting Immaculata within one with 4:38 remaining in regulation.
Rudolf scored his first tally of the game with 2:22 remaining putting the Knights back on top by two goals, 13-11.
Dinneen finished the game with four points. He had a hat trick and added an assist. G. Lorentz scored twice and chipped in one assist while Alan Lorentz had two assists. Stone Gahagan and Drew McLaughlin each added one assist during the afternoon. Andrew Sim made 20 saves in the cage.
Several players had multiple points for Neumann. Gardner led the way with five (4 goals, 1 assist). Justin Mailloux had four on two goals and two assists. Boulay made 23 saves in the cage to earn the win.
Immaculata ends the 2008 season 3-10 overall and 2-6 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.
Immaculata Comeback Falls Short, Falls To Eastern, 12-9
IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University men’s lacrosse team’s comeback fell just short Wednesday night, as it fell to visiting Eastern University, 12-9, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Immaculata heads into the final weekend of the season 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. eastern improved to 7-8 overall and 6-1 in the PAC.
After Immaculata scored five consecutive goals to draw within 10-8 with 6:15 remaining in the contest, Eastern put together back-to-back goals just 21 seconds apart to halt the Mighty Macs streak and propelled the Eagles to victory.
Brendan Dinneen led the Might Macs with three goals. Tom Hartney added two goals and one assist while Zach Krytzer combined for three points on one goal and two assists. Drew McLaughlin chipped in one goal and one assist. John Uhl and Geoff Lorentz each tallied one goal while Alan Lorentz finished with one assist.
Andrew Sim made 13 saves between the pipes for the Mighty Macs in the loss, while Zach Rivest was forced to make nine saves for the Eagles.
Eastern led 6-3 at intermission and stretched its lead to 10-3 at the 5:55 mark of the third quarter before Immaculata made its late surge. The Mighty Macs were able to capitalize on 4 of 5 extra-man opportunities during the second half to bring themselves within striking distance.
Ben O’Donnell led Eastern with three goals while Nick Mandia tallied five points on two goals and three assists.
Immaculata plays its season finale at Neumann College on Saturday, April 26. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
Cabrini Tops Immaculata, 22-2
RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini College men's lacrosse team recorded a 22-2 win over visiting Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.
The Cavaliers improve to 12-2 and remain unbeaten at 7-0 in the Pennsylavnia Athletic Conference, while the Mighty Macs fall to 3-8 overall, 2-4 in the PAC.
Brendan Dinneen scored both goals of the game for the Mighty Macs.
The Cavaliers scored the first three goals of the game before Immaculata got on the scoreboard with 8:34 left in the first period on a goal by Dinneen off a pass from Alan Lorentz. Immaculata trailed just 5-1 after the first quarter.
Cabrini blew the game open in the second quarter scoring 10 goals, and took a 15-1 lead into intermission.
Cabrini built a 17-1 lead at the 13:37 mark of the third period off 14 consecutive goals by the Cavaliers. Immaculata stopped the run as Dinneen found the back of the cage off a Tom Hartney feed with 10:25 remaining in the third quarter.
Andrew Sim registered 24 saves in the net for Immaculata. Bobby Chambers played the first half in goal for Cabrini, recording two saves and earning in the win. Kevin Chenoweth played the third period (two saves) and freshman Sean Reynolds spent the fourth period in the net.
Scott Reimer's seven goals and one assist led the Cavaliers, offensively. Rich Romanelli added three goals for Cabrini and Casey Grugan recorded two goals and two assists.
The Mighty Macs close out the home slate on Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. hosting the Eastern University Eagles.
Marywood Slips By Immaculata, 10-7
IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men’s lacrosse team pulled to within two goals with just under five minutes remaining in the game, but Marywood proved to be too much as the Pacers picked up a 10-7 win at Draper Walsh Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mighty Macs fall to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. Marywood sits at 7-3 on the year with the victory and 4-2 in the conference.
Immaculata was led by Brendan Dinneen, who scored four goals, tying his season high. Tom Hartney, Alan Lorentz and Geoff Lorentz each netted one goal and one assist for the Mighty Macs. Zach Krytzer registered two assists during the game.
Immaculata led only once during the contest, after it jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Dinneen scored his first goal of the game off a Krytzer assist at the 12:12 mark of the first quarter. Nick Parks notched Marywood’s first goal of the afternoon at the 8:23 mark of the first quarter. Ryne Boyle followed shortly after with two tallies to end the first quarter with Marywood on top 3-1.
However, a 2-0 Immaculata run to start the second quarter would tie the game for the Mighty Macs. A. Lorentz found the back of the cage with 11:42 to play, and Dinneen scored on another Krytzer feed with 4:44 remaining in the half. George Downey IV ended the Immaculata run with a goal just 11 seconds before the end of the half to send the Pacers into intermission with the 4-3 advantage.
Dinneen would score his third goal to start the third quarter and knot the score at 4-all, but a 3-0 Marywood run would sway momentum back to the Pacers. Immaculata would not go away though as G. Lorentz, Dinneen and Hartney would score three of the games next five goals to pull Immaculata to within two at 9-7. Marywood secured the victory as Will Roerden scored with 2:11 remaining in the contest and went on for the 10-7 win.
Downey registered a hat-trick, and the Pacers got two goals and one assist from Roerden and Parks.
Andrew Sim made 19 saves for the afternoon and Jesse Habich recorded 16 to earn the win in the net for Marywood.
Immaculata will travel to Cabrini on Saturday, April 19. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
Sim Selected To PAC Honor Roll
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Sim was selected to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Honor Roll as announced by the league office on Monday, April 14. It marked the third week in a row that an Immaculata player has earned recognition from the league office, and the second time this season that Sim has garners PAC honors.
A native of Prospect Park, Pa., Sim made 36 saves in a 1-1 week for the Mighty Macs. In Immaculata's 10-7 victory over Alvernia, Sim recorded 13 saves and also collected six ground balls, In the Mighty Macs other game of the week against Scranton, Sim tallied 23 saves, one shy of his season high.
For the season, Sim has a .613 save percentage and a 11.03 goals against average.
Eastern University's Ben O'Donnell earned the league’s player of the week honor, while Kyle Gardner
from Neumann College earned honor roll mention with Sim.
Immaculata will be in action on Wednesday, April 16, when it welcomes Marywood into Draper Walsh Stadium for a 4 p.m. face-off.
Immaculata Hands Alvernia 10-7 Loss
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata raced out to a 3-0 lead during the opening five minutes of Saturday’s Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match-up with Alvernia, and hung on for a 10-7 victory.
Immaculata improved its record to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the PAC, while Alvernia falls to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the PAC.
Immaculata opened the scoring when Matt Brown found the back of the net off an assist from Zach Krytzer just 51 seconds into the game. Brendan Dinneen scored just under a minute later off a feed again from Kyrtzer, and Geoff Lorentz tallied a goal off a Joe Keller assist to give the Mighty Macs a 3-0 lead.
The hosts appeared to be ready to run away with the contest, but the Crusaders got two goals to draw within a single goal at the end of the first quarter. Dinneen halted Alvernia’s rally with his second goal of the game at the 12:33 mark of the second period to give Immaculata a two-goal advantage, 4-2.
Alvernia again drew to within one when Martin Novia scored a man-up goal with 11:54 remaining in the first half. The Mighty Macs then answered with four goals in just over three minutes to increase their advantage to 8-3 with 4:31 remaining in the opening half. Alvernia narrowed the score to 8-4 at the break when it tallied a goal with 28 seconds remaining.
Alvernia got the first two goals of the third quarter as Dan Dempsey and Jeff Bohler each netted their only goal of the game, to bring the Crusaders within two goals with 9:21 still remaining in the third period. Kryzter scored his only goal of the afternoon at the 5:28 mark, putting the Mighty Macs ahead 9-6 heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter was a stalemate until Lorentz scored his final tally of the afternoon with 3:53 remaining in the game off another Krytzer assist. Ben Stidham scored with 2:52 remaining in the fourth quarter off a Tom Novak assist to bring Alvernia back within three, but the Mighty Macs held on for the 10-7 victory.
Lorentz led the Mighty Macs with three goals and finished with four points, while Krytzer amassed five points on one goal and four assists. Dinneen finished with two goals and Keller recorded one goal and one assist.
Andrew Sim made 13 saves to pick up his third win of the season. Matt Boulton, played the first half, making three stops in a losing effort, and Joe Cepparulo played the second half making six saves and only allowing two goals.
Marywood was led by a two-goal performance from Stidham, and Novack registered four points on one goal and three assists.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Wednesday when they host Marywood University at Draper Walsh Stadium. Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
Scranton Upends Immaculata, 15-4
IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University's men's lacrosse team fell to the University of Scranton, 15-4, in the Mighty Macs final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday night, April 8, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Immaculata falls to 2-6 overall this season and Scranton improved to 8-3.
Joe Keller posted two goals and added an assist, while Brendan Dinneen amassed one goal and one assist. Tom Hartney recorded one goal in the effort for the Might Macs.
Andrew Sim collected 23 saves, one shy of his season high, between the pipes for Immaculata.
Scranton scored the first two goals of the game, and led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. Immaculata scored a man-up goal 12 seconds into the second period as Hartney found the back of the cage. However, the Royals scored five unanswered goals, and took a 9-2 lead into intermission.
Keller added the Mighty Macs two goals in the second half, one each in the third and fourth quarters.
Christian Dugan paced Scranton with three goals and Thomas Alati amassed three points for the game on two goals and one assist. Jeremy Dowiak started and played the first half in the net for the Royals, allowing two goals and making one save. Scranton's three goalies combined for six saves for the night.
Immaculata will host Alvernia on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.

For the season, Hartney leads the team with 14 goals and 20 points.

Immaculata Falls Just Short Against Centenary, 12-11
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University’s men’s lacrosse team’s comeback fell just short as the Mighty Macs dropped a 12-11 decision to Centenary College on Saturday, April5, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Tom Hartney registered five goals and two assists, while Brendan Dinneen added four goals and one assist for the Mighty Macs (2-5 overall, 1-2 PAC).
The Cyclones (2-7, 2-1) scored the first goal of the game, before Hartney found the back of the net on a pass from Dinneen, to even the score, 1-1, with 10:49 remaining in the first quarter. Immaculata thought it had gone ahead, 2-1, with 7:06 remaining, but the goal was called back for an illegal crosse, and Centenary scored a man-up goal on the penalty.
Hartney scored again for the Mighty Macs before the Cyclones closed the first quarter with two more goals and the 4-2 advantage.
Hartney tallied his third goal of the afternoon with 7:44 remaining in the second period, bringing the Mighty Macs within one, 4-3. Centenary rattled off three goals during the final 4:16 of the first half, and led, 7-3, at the break.
Immaculata outscored Centenary 4-2 during the third quarter, trailing just 9-7 heading into the final 15 minutes. The Cyclones began to outdistance themselves with three goals during the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, for the 12-7 lead with 9:02 remaining.
The Mighty Macs began their comeback as Dinneen surged for three goals within a five minute span, to make the margin 12-10, with 1:08 remaining. Geoff Lorentz found the back of the cage with 38.6 left on the clock, and Immaculata trailed by just one.
The Mighty Macs won the face-off and Zach Krytzer’s shot went wide, but Immaculata had one more chance to the tie the game. Hartney took off a shot as the clock expired but it was saved by Brian Triolo.
G. Lorentz finished with two goals and one assist. Krytzer added two assists, while Alan Lorentz and John Uhl each finished with one assist.
Andrew Sim totaled 16 saves between the pipes for the Mighty Macs, while Triolo registered 17 saves.
Ryan Mangold paced the Cyclones with four goals and two assists, while Rory Murray finished with five points on two goals and three assists.
Immaculata will be in action on Tuesday, April 8, at it welcomes Scranton under the lights for a 7 p.m. face-off at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Men’s Lacrosse Wins Second Straight
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University’s men’s lacrosse team won its second consecutive game and first home contest on Wednesday, April 2, as it defeated Moravian College, 9-4, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Mighty Macs (2-4 overall, 1-1 PAC) were powered to victory by a hat-trick from Brendan Dinneen and two-goal performance from sophomore Tom Hartney. Both Dinneen and Hartney and finished the contest with four point each.
Reigning PAC Player of the Week, sophomore Andrew Sim, displayed an outstanding performance in goal for the Mighty Macs, stopping 23 shots and only allowing four shot to find the back of the cage.
Immaculata scored three answered goals during the first quarter, including the first two from Dinneen, before Moravian connected on its first goal of the game with 17 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. Each team was held scoreless during the second stanza.
The Greyhounds capitalized on a man-up opportunity just 1:11 into the third period to trail 3-2. Immaculata again held a one-goal advantage, 4-3, after Moravian scored at the 7:17 mark of the third quarter.
From there, the Mighty Macs scored two goals in just over one minute to push the lead to 6-3, and Immaculata never looked back the rest of the way. Moravian scored its final goal of the contest with 3:52 remaining in the third quarter, and Immaculata closed the game with three fourth-period goals.
Junior Geoff Lorentz, sophomore Zach Krytzer and freshmen Joe Keller and Drew McLaughlin each added a goal in the effort, while Lorentz and Krytzer also added an assist. Junior Alan Lorentz chipped in two assists.
Jason Tosches led the Greyhounds with two goals. Benjamin Leavy made 11 saves for Moravian in the cage.
Immaculata looks to continue its winning streak when it hosts Centenary on Saturday, March 5, at Draper Walsh Stadium. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m.
Sim Honored As PAC Men’s Lacrosse Player Of The Week
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University sophomore Andrew Sim was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday, March 31, by the conference office.
Sim stopped 17 shots in a key PAC victory at Misericordia, 8-5, on Saturday afternoon in Dallas, Pa., leading the Mighty Macs to their first victory in the history of the two-year program. Sim finished with a .773 save percentage in Immaculata’s only contest of the week.
Immaculata hosts Moravian on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. face-off, before resuming its PAC schedule against Centenary at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Immaculata Men’s Lacrosse Captures First Win
DALLAS, Pa. – Immaculata used a three-goal second quarter to take control of Saturday’s Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse game against Misericordia University and claim an 8-5 victory. The win marked the two-year old program’s first victory, halting what had been a 15-game losing streak.
“Our celebration after the game might have been a little over exuberant, but our players deserved to win and celebrate,” said Immaculata head coach Bob Bush. “I hope this is the first of many wins. What these players and coaches have gone through over the last year and a half has been very tough on everyone. The players never stopped working, and great friendships have been made along the way.”
With the win, the Mighty Macs record now stands at 1-4 for the season and 1-1 in the PAC, while the Cougars fall to 1-6 overall, 0-3 PAC.
Sophomore Tom Hartney led the Mighty Macs with three goals and one assist for the game. Freshman Brendan Dinneen also added three goals to the Mighty Macs winning effort. Junior Geoff Lorentz tallied two goals, while sophomore Zach Krytzer and freshman Drew McLaughlin each registered an assist.
Sophomore Andrew Sim made 17 saves to pick up his first career win in the cage. His five goals allowed marked a career-low.
“Tom (Hartney) played great today for us, and it wasn’t just his goal scoring,” said Bush. “Our entire defense also played outstanding. Casey Grandelli, Brad Hamlet and Brandon Mader were absolute standouts on defense, while Stone Gahagan and Zach (Krytzer) did a great job on face-offs.”
Immaculata established the tempo and dominated early. The Mighty Macs led, 4-0, at halftime. It was the first time the Mighty Macs had ever led at intermission and marked the first time Immaculata had led the entire game.
Each team netted three goals in the third quarter, and Misericordia found the back of the cage twice more in the final stanza, but could not overcome the early deficit.
“After the first game last season, [March 11 versus Manhattanville] I took the players over to the scoreboard so they could look, feel and remember what that loss felt like,” said Bush. “I told the players that when we won our first game, I would do it again so they could remember what that felt like as well. And that was exactly what I did after the game today. It was a total team effort and I want the players to enjoy the feeling.”
Immaculata will look to continue the momentum on Wednesday, April 2, when it hosts Moravian at 4 p.m.
Mighty Macs Drop League Opener To Shenandoah, 18-4
WINCHESTER, Va. – Immaculata University’s men’s lacrosse team dropped an 18-4 decision to Shenandoah University on Tuesday, March 18, in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
Sophomore Zach Krytzer registered two goals while sophomore John Uhl and freshman Brandon Mader each tallied one goal. Junior Alan Lorentz and freshman Brendan Dinneen each added an assist.
Sophomore Andrew Sim started in goal and played the first 58:14, making 14 saves while taking the loss.
Ben Page and Richard Michael each tallied six points for Shenandoah. Page recorded three goals and three assists, while Michael netted five goals and chipped in one assist. Rodney Mattison got the win in the crease for the Hornets (3-0, 1-0 PAC) having to make just four saves.
Immaculata (0-4, 0-1 PAC) returns to action following an 11-day hiatus on Saturday, March 29, when it travels to Misericordia at 1 p.m.
Immaculata Falls 10-5 To DeSales
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Immaculata University's men's lacrosse team fell to DeSales, 10-5, on Wednesday afternoon, March 12.
Immaculata slips to 0-3 overall and DeSales improves to 3-2 overall.
Tom Hartney tallied three goals, while Alan Lorentz and Brendan Dinneen each added one goal. Lorrentz finished with one assist and Dinneen had two helpers.
"Tom Hartney and Brad Hamlet played extremely well for us today," said head coach Bob Bush. "Brad marked DeSales' leading scorer from last season and did an excellant job shutting him down."
Andrew Sim tallied 12 saves in goal for the Mighty Macs.
DeSales recorded three goals in the first period and were able to hold onto their lead for the rest of the game. Dan Thomer led the Bulldogs in scoring with four goals and added one assist.
The Mighty Macs are back in action on Tuesday, March 18, when they begin their league slate at Shenandoah at 4 p.m.
Elizabethtown Tops Immaculata, 14-8
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Immaculata men’s lacrosse drop a 14-8 decision to Elizabethtown in non-conference action on Saturday, March 8.
Elizabethtown (2-1) jumped to an early 4-1 lead behind three goals from Ryan McCafferty, but Immaculata (0-2) closed the first quarter with three goals in the final two minutes to knot the game at 4-all.
Patrick Durso and Geoff Lorentz led the Mighty Macs with two goals apiece, while Jim Baranello and Brendan Dinneen each posted a goal and an assist. Alan Lorentz and Joe Keller also recorded a goal.
The Blue Jays notched two goals in the second quarter to give Elizabethtown a 6-4 lead at halftime. Baranello, making his first appearance of the spring, scored 1:24 into the third quarter, pulling the Mighty Macs within one, 6-5. Elizabethtown then ran off seven straight goals, including another three from McCafferty, to move ahead 13-5 with 8:05 remaining in the game.
Durso capitalized on the man-up opportunity for Immaculata with 6:18 left. After Elizabethtown scored again at the 3:34 mark of the final period, Dinneen and G. Lorentz tallied goals 18 seconds apart during the final two minutes.
McCafferty finished with seven goals for Elizabethtown, which tied the mark for the second-best single-game performance in program history.
Chris Schuch played the first 56 minutes in goal and earned the win for Elizabethtown, finishing with seven saves and allowing six goals.
Immaculata’s Andrew Sim made 24 saves in the loss.
The Mighty Macs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 12, when they travel to DeSales at 3:30 p.m.
Mighty Macs Fall In Lid Lifter To King’s, 14-6
IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University men’s lacrosse team opened the 2008 season falling to King’s College, 14-6, on Wednesday at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Freshman Brendan Dinneen made his collegiate debut scoring two goals and added an assist for the Mighty Macs (0-1), while junior Geoff Lorentz also chipped in two goals. Sophomore Tom Hartney and junior Alan Lorentz each collected a goal in the effort.
After the Monarchs scored the first three goals of the game, as Kris Skewes found the back of the net twice, Immaculata rattled off three straight goals of its own. Geoff Lorentz’s goal with 8:47 remaining in the second quarter knotted the score at 3-all and it would remain that way at the break.
Immaculata stayed in the game early by winning 5 of 8 faceoffs during the first half, but were just 7-for-16 in the second half. Sophomore Stone Gahagan was 7-for-13 in the circle for the Mighty Macs.
King’s scored four goals during the first 5:23 of the second half to pull ahead 7-3, and Immaculata wouldn’t be in striking distance the rest of the way.
Curtis Reinard, John Doran and Ryan Lachner each registered hat tricks for the Monarchs. Reinard added three assists and Doran dished out two assists. Tim Cassi played all 60 minutes in goal allowing six Immaculata goals and making 12 saves.
Sophomore Andrew Sim made 20 saves in the cage in 60 minutes of action. Sim also collected two ground balls.
Immaculata begins a four-game road stretch on Saturday at Elizabethtown College. Game time is 1 p.m.
Season Opener Against Manhattanville Postponed
IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University's men's lacrosse game at Manhattanville scheduled for Saturday, March 1 has been postponed due to inclement weather.
No makeup date has been announced.
The Mighty Macs will open the open slate on Wednesday, March 5, at Draper Walsh Stadium when they take on King's College at 4 p.m.
Immaculata Picked To Finish Eighth In Preseason Poll
ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University’s men’s lacrosse team was picked to finish eighth out of nine teams in the 2008 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason poll Thursday as voted on by the league’s head coaches. The Mighty Macs garnered a total of 21 points in the process.
Immaculata (0-11, 0-7 PAC) finished in eighth place a year ago, in the program’s inaugural season.
Reigning PAC champion Cabrini College is the preseason favorite to capture its eighth-straight title, earning 81 points on the strength of all nine possible first-place votes. Shenandoah University was picked second with 70 points, while Eastern University was projected third with 64 points.
Misericordia University (54), Alvernia College (39), Centenary College (39), Neumann College (25) and Marywood University (12) round out the preseason poll in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.
Andrew Sim Earns Immaculata's First All-PAC Honor
Freshman goalkeeper Andrew Sim earned Second Team All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) honors for the 2007 season. He became the first Mighty Macs to earn an All-PAC honor. The award was announced on Wednesday, May 9, in Aston, PA.
Sim started all 11 games for Immaculata in his rookie campaign. He collected 206 saves and registered a 14.39 goals against average (GAA). Sim also played 659:08 of the possible 660:00. He totaled a career-best 28 saves in a 10-7 loss to College Misericordia and garnered 26 saves vs. Cabrini College.
Alex Hughes-Taylor also received post-season honors as he was selected to the Push the Rock All-PAC Sportsmanship Team.
Immaculata finished its inaugural campaign with a mark of 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the PAC.
