Eastern Tops Mighty Macs 14-8 in Season Finale
Geoff Lorentz and Tom Hartney scored two goals apiece, and Alan Lorentz added a goal and three assists, but it was not enough to lead Immaculata over Eastern, as the Mighty Macs dropped a 14-8 decision to finish their inaugural season 0-11.
Immaculata held a 5-4 lead late in the first half after Hartney's second goal of the day, but the Eagles scored three times in the final 3:17 of the half to take a two-goal lead into intermission.
Goals by Geoff Lorentz and Matt Brown pulled the Mighty Macs even at 7-7 with just under 10 minutes left in the third quarter, but Eastern scored seven of the game's final eight goals to secure the win.
Freshman Andrew Sim made 22 saves in the contest.
Wesley Defeats Immaculata In Mighty Macs Home Finale
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team fell to Wesley College 23-4 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Wednesday, April 25, at Draper Walsh Stadium. It was the home finale for the Mighty Macs (0-10, 0-6 PAC).
Sophomore Geoff Lorentz recorded two goals, while fellow sophomores Alan Lorentz and Bobby DeYoung each collected one goal. Freshman Jim Baranello added an assist. Freshman Andrew Sim collected 16 saves between the pipes for Immaculata.
Nick Pisacano amassed three goals and five assists, while Rob King garnered four goals and three assists to pace the Wolverines (8-6, 5-1 PAC).
The Mighty Macs close their inaugural season on the road at Eastern University on Saturday, April 28. Face-off is set for 1 pm.
Shenandoah Shuts Down Immaculata
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team fell to Shenadoah University
17-8 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, April 21, in Winchester, Virginia.
Freshman Jim Baranello recorded four goals, while fellow freshman Matt Brown collected two goals. Freshman Tom Hartney and sophomore Bobby DeYoung registered one goal apiece. Sophomore Alan Lorentz added one assist in the loss.
Freshman Andrew Sim totaled 11 saves between the pipes for the Mighty Macs (0-9, 0-5 PAC).
Stephen Mayor amassed five goals and three assists to pace the Hornets (8-2, 4-1).
Alvernia Upends Immaculata
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team fell to Alvernia College 13-7 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, April 14, at Draper Walsh Stadium. The Mighty Macs fall to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the PAC.
Freshman Tom Hartney collected two goals and one assist, while sophomore Alan Lorentz amassed two goals and one assist. Sophomore Joe Slavick tallied a goal and an assist, while sophomore Geoff Lorentz and freshman Tim Flanagan recorded one goal apiece.
The Mighty Macs scored the first goal of the game, but the Crusaders (4-7, 2-2 PAC) totaled four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 into the second quarter. Both squads scored three goals in the second quarter as Alvernia took a 7-4 lead into intermission. The Crusaders outscored the Mighty Macs 6-3 in the second half to claim the 13-7 victory.
Freshman Andrew Sim collected 22 saves between the pipes for Immaculata and also earned his first career assist.
Sean Cullen paced Alvernia with one goal and five assists.
Neumann Slips Past Mighty Macs
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team dropped a tough 9-5 decision to Neumann College in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Wednesday, April 11, in Aston, PA.
Sophomore Alan Lorentz recorded three goals, while sophomore Geoff Lorentz and freshman Anthony Cucchi tallied a goal apiece. Freshman Tom Hartney posted two assists.
After the Knights grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, G. Lorentz and Cucchi scored two goals in the second quarter to tie the game at 2-2. However, Neumann totaled four unanswered goals in the third quarter to push its lead to 6-2. The Mighty Macs cut the lead in half - 6-4 - with 7:59 left in the fourth quarter, but the Knights scored the next two to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Andrew Sim collected eight saves between the pipes for the Immaculata (0-6).
Immaculata Suffers A Loss To Cabrini Under The Lights
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team fell to Cabrini College 19-5, under the lights, in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Tuesday, April 2, in Radnor, PA.
Sophomore Alan Lorentz amassed two goals and one assist, while freshman Tom Hartney recorded two goals and one assist. Sophomore Geoff Lorentz also added a goal for the Mighty Macs (0-6, 0-2 PAC).
Freshman Andrew Sim collected 26 saves between the pipes for Immaculata.
Rich Romanelli garnered three goals and three assists, while Casey Grugan totaled four goals and two assists to pace the Cavaliers (7-2, 3-0 PAC).
The Mighty Macs return to action on Wednesday, April 11, when they travel to face Neumann College. Face-off is set for 4 pm.
Mighty Macs Fall To Elizabethtown, 12-5
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team fell to Elizabethtown College 12-5, in non-conference action on Saturday, March 31, in Immaculata, PA.
Freshman Tom Hartney recorded two goals and one assist, while sophomore Geoff Lorentz registered two goals. Freshman Shleton added one goal, while freshman Anthony Cucchi collected one assist.
The Blue Jays scored the first 11 goals, before the Mighty Macs answered off a goal by Lorentz at 5:33 of the third quarter. After Frankie Puzzangara scored Elizabethtown's 12th goal, Immaculata closed out the scoring. Brown tallied an unassisted goal at 11:48 of the fourth quarter, while Lorentz was assisted by Hartney at 10:31. Hartney scored the final two goals at 4:35 and 2:58 of the final quarter. Cucchi assisted on the final goal.
Freshman Andrew Sim totaled 23 saves for the Mighty Macs (0-5)
Keith Staulters posted four goals and Puzzangara added three goals to pace the Blue Jays (6-1).
Centenary Sneaks Past Immaculata, 7-6
Immaculata University men's lacrosse comeback fell short as the Mighty Macs dropped a tough 7-6 decision to Centenary College on Wednesday, March 28, in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
Freshman Anthony Cucchi and sophomore Geoff Lorentz each recorded two goals, while freshmen Tom Hartney and Jim Baranello registered one goal apiece. Hartney, along with sophomore Alan Lorentz, also added two assists.
The Cyclones (1-4) scored the first two goals of the game, before Baranello put Immaculata on the board at 1:37 of the second quarter. After Centenary took a 2-1 lead into intermission, Immaculata tied the game at 2-2 off an extra man goal by Cucchi at 7:41 of the third quarter. That goal was assisted by A. Lorentz. The Mighty Macs took the lead with a score by the Lorentz brothers. Geoff posted the tally at 5:11 of an assist from Alan.
The Cyclones scored the next five goals to post a 7-3 lead with 6:42 remaining in the fourth quarter. Immaculata than mounted its comeback off a lead by Hartney.
Hartney collected a goal at 4:33 and assisted on G. Lorentz' tally at 3:44. He also assisted Cucchi's second goal of the game that pulled the Mighty Macs to within one, 7-6, at 3:20 of the final quarter. That was as close as Immaculata would get.
Freshman Andrew Sim totaled 14 saves between the pipes for the Mighty Macs (0-4), while Brian Troilo recorded 10 saves.
Matt Rogers paced the Cyclones with two goals and one assist.
Immaculata Drops Conference Opener
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team fell to College Misericordia 10-7, in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, March 24, at Draper Walsh Stadium. It was the PAC opener for both schools.
Sophomore Geoff Lorentz colleted three goals and an assist, while freshman Anthony Cucchi recorded two goals and an assist. Freshman Jim Baranello and John Uhl each registered one goal, while sophomore Alan Lorentz added one assist.
Sean Collins tallied four goals and two assists to pace the Cougars (2-2).
Freshman Andrew Sim recorded 28 saves for the Mighty Macs (0-3), while Ryan Dwyer totaled 11.
Immaculata returns to action on Monday, March 26, when they face Centenary College. Face-off is set for 3:30 pm.
Mighty Macs Fall To DeSales University, 17-9
Immaculata University men's lacrosse team fell to DeSales University 17-9, in non-conference action on Wednesday, March 21, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Sophomore Geoff Lorentz recorded three goals for the Mighty Macs (0-2), while freshman Anthony Cucchi registered two. Sophomore Alan Lorentz and freshmen Jim Baranello, Matt Brown and Tom Hartney each collected one goal. Lorentz and Baranello also added three assists apiece.
After the Bulldogs (4-2) scored the first two goals, Immaculata responded with three consecutive goals, including a tally by Cucchi at 14:53 of the second quarter. That goal gave the Mighty Macs a 3-2 lead, the first lead of their short history.
However, DeSales scored six unanswered goals to post an 8-3 with 6:26 left in the second quarter and took an 8-4 into intermission. Immaculata would not get any closer.
Danny Larkin amassed four goals and an assist, while Dan Thomer collected two goals and three assists. for the Bulldogs.
Freshman Andrew Sim garnered 14 saves between the pipes for the Mighty Macs, while Jarryd Stamatelos posted four saves for DeSales.
Immaculata Slated To Finish Eighth In Pre-Season Poll
Immaculata University's men's lacrosse team has been selected to finish eighth in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) men's lacrosse pre-season poll. The poll was released on Thursday, March 15, by the conference office in Aston, PA.
The Mighty Macs, who are in their inaugural season, received 13 points to place eighth in the eight-team conference.
Cabrini College was selected as the pre-season favorite. The Cavaliers received six of the seven first-place votes for a total of 63 points. Wesley College collected 57 points to finish second, while College Misericordia was selected third with 43 points.
Eastern University (36), Shenandoah University (31), Alvernia College (24) and Neumann College (21) were selected to place fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
Mighty Macs Fall In Home/Season Opener
In the first game in the history of the Immaculata University men's lacrosse program, the Mighty Macs fell to Manhattanville College 18-5, on Wednesday, March 14, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Valiants (3-0) jumped out early on Immaculata, and held a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. Manhattanville scored its sixth goal just a minute into the second quarter, before the Mighty Macs made history. Sophomore Geoff Lorentz will forever have his name etched in the annals of Immaculata as he scored the first goal for the program at 9:49 of the second quarter. Freshman Tim Flanagan will join him on the list as he recorded the first assist.
Freshman Anthony Cucchi followed with a goal at 3:36 off an assist from Flanagan to cut the deficit to 6-2. However, the Valiants closed the half with four unanswered goals, including three in the final minute to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.
Immaculata added three goals in the second half. Lorentz added his second goal off an assist from sophomore Alan Lorentz. Freshman Jim Baranello registered the final two goals, unassisted, for the Mighty Macs.
Freshman Andrew Sim collected 22 saves between the pipes for Immaculata, while Andrew Predum amassed 13 saves for Manhattanville.
Men's Lacrosse Opens Program in Mid-March
When the men's lacrosse team takes the field at Draper-Walsh Stadium on March 14 against Manhattanville College, a new era will begin in Immaculata athletics. The lacrosse team will be the sixth male sports team to begin play at Immaculata University, following on the heels of the men's soccer, basketball, tennis, golf and cross country teams.
The Mighty Macs will play 12 contests for head coach Bob Bush in 2007, including seven PAC games. The regular season concludes on April 28 when the team travels to Eastern University.
