
Jones And Cammarano Receive Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Seniors Rob Jones and Nina Cammarano are the 2008 recipients of the Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. The Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award is presented to one male and one female senior student-athlete for outstanding athletic accomplishments, sportsmanship, University and community service and leadership.
In addition to the Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Awards, Cammarano was presented with the Outstanding Senior Scholar-Athlete Award.
Jones, a member of the men’s basketball team and a sport management major at Immaculata, was voted a team captain by his peers for the 2007-08 season. In 2008, he was a PAC Honorable Mention selection after helping lead the Mighty Macs to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance. He finished the year second on the squad in rebounding, averaging 6.5 grabs per outing and was fourth in scoring at 9.6 points per game.
Jones, who started all 58 games during his two-year career at Immaculata, played on an IU squad that reached the PAC championship game during his first season. For his efforts during 2006-07, the Wynnewood, Pa., native earned second team All-PAC accolades, after leading the team in rebounding (8.0 rpg) and was second in both scoring (12.6 ppg) and steals (47).
He completed his tenure as a Mighty Mac with 621 points, 405 rebounds, 100 steals, 78 assists and 24 blocked shots. For his career, he recorded 33 double-digit scoring efforts and nine double-doubles.
Cammarano, a member of the women’s basketball team and a communications major, is Immaculata’s all-time, three-point field goal leader, finishing her career with 177 three-pointers. During 2007-08, she was IU’s leading scoring, with 13.1 points per game, and was selected to the PAC weekly honor roll on Feb. 18.
The Wernersville, Pa., native capped her four-year basketball career starting 102 games with 888 points, 279 rebounds, 112 steals and 108 assists. She scored in double-figures 40 times throughout her career, including 16 times her senior season. Immaculata advanced to the conference playoffs twice during her time as a Mighty Mac. Cammarano is also a four-time member of the PAC sportsmanship team.
During her IU career, she served as an intern in the athletic department this past year, aiding in the design and development of media guides for the men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s soccer. She was also tasked with the preparation and updating of the student-athlete directory and assisting with the statistical record keeping during events. Cammarano has also served on Immaculata’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
In addition to Cammarano’s activities at Immaculata, she worked as an intern at NAS Recruitment Communications, where she assisted in prospecting future clients and in proof reading and quality check of advertisements. She also prepared PowerPoint sales presentations and supported the research initiative for web site contest review.
Cammarano was a two-sport athlete at Immaculata during her freshman and sophomore years. She was a member of the field hockey program, playing 35 games, amassing nine goals and nine assists for a total of 27 points.
In addition, to highlight the numerous accomplishments of Immaculata’s teams and student-athletes, the evening also featured All-PAC award winners being recognized for their achievements throughout the past year.
Mighty Macs Fall In Overtime To Richard Stockton
POMONA, N.J. – Immaculata fell to Richard Stockton, 84-75, in overtime of the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. It was the Mighty Macs first overtime contest all season, and ended what had been a magical season, capped by the first trip to the Tournament for the Immaculata men’s basketball program. Immaculata ends the season with a record of 18-10.
Richard Stockton (21-6) won the opening tip of the extra period and scored the first basket of overtime, setting the tempo. Senior Reggie Strickland scored Immaculata’s first four points, bringing the Mighty Macs within two, 76-74, with 2:15 remaining. Jon Greene made a layup and was fouled on the play, but completed the and-one. That put the Ospreys up 79-74 with 1:59 to play and the Mighty Macs never got any closer than four the rest of the way.
Senior Dan Lepone registered a team-high 18 points, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Strickland finished with 14 points, while junior Kyle Finklea added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Jayson Hyman led the Mighty Macs on the glass bringing down 12 rebounds and adding nine points. Sophomore Scott Marston recorded 11 boards and chipped in seven points.
The opening 7:44 of the first half produced four lead changes and neither team led by more than one, except on the opening basket of the game from Immaculata’s Rob Jones.
Jones sunk two free throws at the 12:16 mark of the opening stanza, giving the Mighty Macs an advantage they would hold until the final 2:29 of the first half.
Immaculata held its largest lead of the stanza, 18-10, with 8:47 remaining in the half. Richard Stockton chipped away at the lead, narrowing the Mighty Macs advantage to 20-17 with 5:51 left. A 6-2 run by Immaculata over 1:25, in which Strickland poured in all six points, extended the margin back to seven.
Over the final 3:20 of the opening half, the Ospreys outscored the Mighty Macs 12-4, including six of the first eight points of the spurt off Immaculata turnovers. It was a one-point game during the final 2:42 of the stanza, and as time expired on the first-half clock, Richard Stockton’s Mario Lancioni banked a jumper, sending the Ospreys into the locker room ahead, 31-30.
Richard Stockton maintained the lead until the 3:55 mark of the second half. Immaculata got within two points five times, but each time the Ospreys held the visitors at bay. Immaculata trailed, 62-57, with 5:24 remaining in regulation but a 7-2 run over 1:29 knotted the score at 64-all capped by a Strickland jumper.
The Mighty Macs pushed their lead to four, 68-64, with 2:33 left to play but the Ospreys cut their deficit to 68-67 after a three-point play by Omar Smith. Dan Lepone drained a pull-up jumper with 1:46 remaining, putting Immaculata back ahead by three.
Richard Stockton’s Santini Lancioni sunk a three pointer with 53.1 seconds left in regulation and the score with stay that way when the clock hit zero.
Greene finished with a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds. M. Lancioni poured in 18 points and Smith added 11 points for Richard Stockton.
With the win, Richard Stockton advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where it will face Rhode Island College on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Anchormen defeated the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College, 77-73, in the first game of the doubleheader.
Immaculata Set To Face Richard Stockton In NCAAs
Immaculata (18-9, 11-5) will make its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament opposite Richard Stockton in the first round on Friday, March 7 in Pomona, N.J. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. at the Stockton Sports Center. The Mighty Macs earned the right to play in the “big dance” by winning the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament, while Richard Stockton captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference automatic berth.
The Mighty Macs secured their first trip to the NCAAs by winning the PAC’s automatic bid with an 85-68 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference title game. Richard Stockton defeated William Paterson, 67-66, in the NJAC Tournament Championship.
An Immaculata win in the first round would propel the Mighty Macs into the second round where they would face the winner of Nazareth College (20-7) versus Rhode Island College (22-6). The second round-contest will be held at the Stockton Sports Complex at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 8.
Richard Stockton enters the tournament with a 20-6 record, and was among others receiving votes in the latest D3Hoops.com Top 25 Poll. Richard Stockton represents Immaculata’s fourth opponent this year that has either been ranked or receiving votes in the poll. The Mighty Macs defeated Ursinus, 87-77, on Dec. 19, fell to Randolph-Macon, 91-59, on Dec. 29 and dropped a 90-76 decision to Widener on Jan. 14.

In the midst of its most successful season in the three-year existence of the program, Immaculata (18-9) is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Mighty Macs earned the league’s automatic bid to the tournament with an 85-68 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game last Friday night at Alumnae Hall.
It is Immaculata’s first meeting all-time against Richard Stockton.

Finklea, Hyman and Jones Honored by PAC
ASTON, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Athletic Conference announced Monday that junior Kyle Finklea, sophomore Jayson Hyman and senior Rob Jones each earned spots on the All-PAC Team, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches. Finklea was one of five players named to the first team, Hyman earned second team honors, while Jones was selected as honorable mention.
Finklea, earned first team honors after being selected to the second team a seaon ago. Finklea becomes the first Mighty Mac to cop first team accolades in the history of the three-year program.
The Sharon Hill, Pa., native has averaged an impressive 14.6 points and 4.5 rebounds over 73 career games at Immaculata. He became the first Immaculata men’s basketball player to eclipse the 1,000-point mark and currently has 1,059 career points.
This season, Finklea leads the Mighty Macs in scoring with a 16.5 average and is third on the squad in rebounding with 4.6 rebounds per contest.
Hyman was named to the 2008 All-PAC second team. A starter in 24 or 26 contests this season, the 6-3 forward is averaging 10.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing during his sophomore campaign. He has reached double figures in scoring 16 times this season, including a season-high 22 points at Gwynedd-Mercy during the first meeting this season.
A Philadelphia, Pa., native, Hyman has led the team in rebounding 15 times and recorded five double-doubles this season, most recently against Gwynedd-Mercy in the PAC Tournament Final.
Jones earned All-PAC Honorable Mention after pouring in 9.6 points per game and averaging 6.4 rebounds per contest, second on the squad. Jones also leads the Mighty Macs with 49 steals during the year. Jones was selected to All-PAC second team a season ago.
Sophomore Scott Marston was named to the All-PAC Sportsmanship Team.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Selection Monday
IMMACULATA, Pa. – The next stop on Immaculata’s 2007-08 men’s basketball campaign will be revealed Monday, March 3, when the field of 59 teams from the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament is announced.
The teams and brackets will be announced at 12 p.m. on a selection special being streamed live on www.ncaa.com. Following the selection show, fans can go to www.d3hoops.com and catch Hoopsville for an analysis of the bracket. Immaculata head coach Jamie Chadwin is scheduled to call in to the show to give his reaction to who the Mighty Macs will be playing in the first round.
Immaculata stamped its ticket to the postseason with its 85-68 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy in Friday’s Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship game. It marked Immaculata’s first PAC title and initial trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the three-year program.
Along with Immaculata capturing the PAC’s automatic bid, 37 other conference winners advance to the tournament field by capturing the automatic qualifier.
First-round games will be held on Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7.
Macs Go Dancing
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Jayson Hyman scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, earning the tournament’s most valuable player award, as Immaculata stamped its ticket to the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament with an 85-68 victory over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy before a season-high sellout crowd of 660 in the championship game of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference tournament Friday night at Alumnae Hall.
With the win, Immaculata (18-9) claims the PAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gwynedd-Mercy (19-9) saw its season come to an end with the loss.
Kyle Finklea tallied 15 points and Sean Fordham 14, lifting the Mighty Macs to their first conference championship in just the third year of the program.
“It is something that is very hard to explain,” said third-year head coach Jamie Chadwin. “I am excited for everyone that is a part of this program. I was happy we were able to execute the game plan and play so well.”
The Macs went on a 10-0 run with 5:49 remaining in the game to sew up its first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Gwynedd-Mercy’s Dave Smith knocked down a jumper to draw the Griffins within three (67-64). However, Immaculata answered by holding its guests scoreless over the next four minutes to open up its first double-digit lead of the game, 77-64.
That burst late in the game broke open an affair that was very much a see-saw battle for most of the contest. The Macs’ Julius Lopez (five points) sent the home team into the locker room at halftime with a 46-41 advantage by nailing 3-pointer off the glass from 22 feet away at the buzzer. It was Lopez’s first shot attempt of the contest as he had just checked into the game with four seconds remaining.
That 3-ball ended one of the highest scoring halves of the season, which saw Gwynedd-Mercy shoot 53 percent from the field (16-for-30) while Immaculata shot 46 percent (18-for-39). The Griffins cooled off in the second frame, but the Macs maintained its hot hand to outlast its visitors.
Gwynedd-Mercy tied the contest at 48-all at the 17:42 mark, but that was the last time the tilt was knotted up. The Griffins pulled to within one (52-51) with 14:19 to go on a 3-pointer by Matt Johnson. But Dan Lepone answered with a trey of his own and tacked on a jumper shortly after to push the Macs out in front 57-51.
The Griffins would not get any closer than two the rest of the way.
Fordham added five assists to his 14-point effort, and Finklea four helpers. Hyman grabbed 10 defensive boards as Immaculata outrebounded Gwynedd-Mercy by a 47-36 margin.
The win also delivered Immaculata University its first PAC team championship in any sport.
Dave Smith scored a game-high 17 points for the Griffins in the loss. Lemeire Talley scored 15.
Immaculata will find out who and where it will play on Monday at noon, when the regional brackets of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament field are announced on www.ncaasports.com. First-round games at host sites begin Thursday, March 6.
2008 Men’s PAC Tournament Championship Information
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata successfully defended its home court during the semifinal round of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Men’s Tournament, advancing to the championship game for the second consecutive year. The Mighty Macs and Alumnae Hall will serve as host to the PAC Tournament Championship game on Friday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m.
The championship game features the second-seeded Mighty Macs against fourth-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy.
The Mighty Macs (17-9, 11-5) earned the right to play for the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference crown after defeating No. 3 Misericordia, 82-65, in the semifinals on Tuesday night. Gwynedd-Mercy (19-8, 10-6) advanced to the finals after downing No. 5 Cabrini, 78-62, in the quarterfinals and upsetting top-seeded Alvernia, 73-66, in the semifinals.
This is the second time in the three-year existence of the program that Immaculata has advanced to the championship game, coming up on the short end a year ago. The Mighty Macs, as the No. 3-seed, ended the 2006-07 season falling to No. 1-seed Alvernia, 70-55, in the PAC title game.
Head coach Jamie Chadwin and his squad will be looking to make history by winning Immaculata’s first Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s crown and earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Immaculata Advances To PAC Championship Game
IMMACULATA, Pa. – The trio of Kyle Finklea, Dan Lepone and Scott Martson combined for 50 of Immaculata’s 82 points as the second-seeded Mighty Macs down No. 3-seed Misericordia, 82-65, in the semifinal round of the 2008 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday evening at Alumnae Hall. The 82 points put up by Immaculata was the most points allowed by Misericordia this season.
With the victory, the Mighty Macs (17-9) advance to the championship game for the second consecutive year. Immaculata will host No. 4-seed Gwynedd-Mercy in the championship game on Friday, February 29, at Alumnae Hall. The Griffins upset top-seeded Alvernia, 73-66, in the other semifinal contest.
Misericordia (18-9) jumped out early, 7-2, at the 16:38 mark, but a 9-0 run by the Mighty Macs gave them the lead, 11-7, with 14:11 remaining in the first half. Finklea scored seven of Immaculata’s first 11 points. After the Mighty Macs knotted the score at 7-all, the Cougars would not lead the rest of the way.
Misericordia got within one of Immaculata, 11-10, at the 13:08 mark after Evan Donegan knocked down a three-pointer. After the Mighty Macs extended their advantage to six, Dom Del Prete made a basket from long range, trimming the lead to 18-15 with 11:01 to play in the first stanza.
Immaculata padded its lead to double digits for the first time in the opening half, 29-19, with 5:07 left to play in the half, and the Mighty Macs took a 41-32 advantage into the locker room.
Finklea led all scorers at the half with 13 points, while Lepone added eight points.
Misericordia came out and scored the first bucket of the second half at the 18:36 mark, cutting the Cougars deficit to seven. The Mighty Macs responded with a 12-4, ignited by a three-pointer by Finklea at the 17:47 mark and capped by another Finklea trey five and a half minutes later. Immaculata maintained a double-figure lead the remainder of the way.
The Mighty Macs took their largest lead of the contest, 68-51, with 3:56 remaining, and the score would end with the same margin.
Finklea finished with a game-high 22 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. Lepone contributed 15 points, including 6-8 from the foul line. Martson reached double figures with 13 points and led Immaculata on the glass with eight rebounds.
The Mighty Macs held a decisive edge from beyond the arc, sinking 8 for 17 (.471), while the Cougars converted just 4-of-23 (.174).
Misericorida’s Robbie Johnson registered 14 points and Matt Hornak added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
Immaculata Hosts Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Semifinal
IMMACULATA, Pa. - Fresh off the heels of its finest season in the three-year program history, the Immaculata men’s basketball team clinched the No. 2 seed in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament by virtue of its 69-68 victory over Eastern in the regular-season finale. The Mighty Macs (16-9, 11-5) earned a bye in the first round and the right to host a semifinal game at Alumnae Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m.
The second-seeded Mighty Macs will face off against No. 3-seed Misericordia in one semifinal contest. The Cougars advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal with a 58-38 win over Neumann in the quarterfinals. Alvernia, which claimed the top seed in the tournament, will host No. 4-seed Gwynedd-Mercy in the other semifinal contest. The Griffins advanced to the semifinal round after downing Cabrini, 78-62, in the opening round.
Tickets for the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Semifinal can be purchased at the door to the Alumnae Hall gymnasium for $5. Immaculata University students get in free with a valid student ID.
The Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship Game will be held on Friday, Feb. 29, at the highest remaining seed. The winner of that championship game receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Hyman's Layup Lifts Mighty Macs Past Eagles, 64-63
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Sophomore Jayson Hyman’s layup with 6.1 seconds left lifted Immaculata to a 64-63 victory over Eastern in a PAC men’s basketball game on Thursday night at Alumnae Hall.
Immaculata’s win tonight, coupled with Misericordia’s 55-52 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy, gives the Mighty Macs (16-9, 11-5 PAC) the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament and a first-round bye. Eastern ends its season with a record of 11-14 overall and 8-8 in the PAC.
The second half alone saw nine ties and 13 lead changes as both teams battled back and forth. A 3-pointer by junior Kyle Finklea put the hosts in front 58-57 with two minutes left, but Eastern’s Brent Williams answered with a jumper to push the visitors back on top.
Finklea hit another jumper to give the Macs the lead again. However, Williams nailed both free throws after being fouled to give Eastern the lead back.
It was Finklea to the rescue once more when he knocked down another jumper that put Immaculata in front 62-61 with 59 seconds remaining. This time, Eastern’s Matt Flanagan converted two free throws with 17 ticks left to set up Hyman’s heroics.
Finklea finished with 20 points on the night while Hyman cashed in 16 and Rob Jones had 11.
Daryl Leegwater posted a double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds) off the bench for Eastern.
Immaculata will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the semifinals of the PAC tournament. Tip-off for that playoff contest at Alumnae Hall is set for 7 p.m.
Late Flurry Lifts Misericordia Past Immaculata, 73-65
DALLAS, Pa. – Immaculata placed four players in double figures, but Misericordia held the visitors scoreless over the final three minutes of the game en route to a 73-65 come-from-behind win over Immaculata on Monday evening.
Immaculata slides to 15-9 overall and 10-5 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference while Misericordia improves to 16-8, 10-5 PAC.
Sophomore Jayson Hyman and senior Reggie Strickland each tallied 12 points apiece. Hyman grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Rob Jones finished with 11 points and seven rebounds while junior Kyle Finklea chipped in 10 points.
Misericordia scored the opening basket of the game, but it would be the only time during the first half that the Cougars held the edge. Misericordia trailed by one at the 15:52 mark when Immaculata sprinted out on a 9-0 run over 3:18 to take the 14-4 lead. Finklea contributed five points during the Mighty Macs’ run.
Two Evan Donegan 3-pointers quickly cut the Immaculata advantage to six (16-10) with 9:53 remaining in the opening stanza. Jones got the hot hand as he tallied seven unanswered points for the Mighty Macs, giving them a 23-10 lead.
Immaculata maintained its double-digit advantage for the remainder of the half, leading by its largest margin, 34-20, 3:42 before intermission as Jones again hit a jumper.
The Mighty Macs led, 40-30, at the break as Jones tallied 11 points and Finklea added eight points. As a team, Immaculata shot 58 percent (15-for-26) during the first half compared to Misericordia’s 40 percent (6-for-15).
The Cougars came out of the locker room ready for the second half as they scored the first six points of the stanza, and cut the Mighty Macs advantage to 40-36 just 1:26 into the half.
An 8-2 Immaculata spurt powered by five points from Hyman put the Mighty Macs back ahead by double figures, 48-38, with 16:06 to play in the contest. The ensuing 10 minutes was a swing game as Immaculata would distance itself by 10 and then Misericordia would knock the lead down to five.
Immaculata held a six-point advantage, 63-57, with 6:06 remaining in the tilt when Vinny Baumunk sunk a trey for Misericordia at the 5:35 mark, narrowing the lead to 63-60. Baumunk again knocked down a three for the Cougars, tying the game at 63-all with 3:56 on the game clock.
Finklea connected on two free throws to put the Mighty Macs back on top, 65-63, with 3:31 remaining. However, a Dom Del Prete free throw coupled with a Baumunk three, gave the Cougars the 67-65 lead. It was Misericordia’s first lead since the opening minutes of the game.
The Cougars went on to ice the game going 6 of 6 from the foul line during the closing minute for the victory.
Baumunk finished with a game-high 17 points, while Marcus Little and Del Prete added 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Immaculata plays its final regular-season contest on Thursday, Feb. 21, when the Mighty Macs host Eastern at 8 p.m. at Alumnae Hall.
Immaculata Bows to Alvernia, 75-62
READING, Pa. – Senior Dan Lepone scored 20 points off the bench and junior Kyle Finklea became the school’s charter member of the 1,000-point club, but it was not enough as visiting Immaculata fell to Alvernia, 75-62, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s basketball tilt Thursday evening.
In the battle for first place, Immaculata (15-8, 10-4 PAC) was outscored 47-34 in the second half as Alvernia (14-9, 11-3) ended the contest on a 10-1 run to salt the game away for the hosts.
Finklea (15 points), the all-time leading scorer in the program’s three-year history with 1,002 points, became the first Mighty Mac men’s player to reach 1,000 career points on a jumper with 4:44 remaining in the contest that drew the visitors to within five (59-54).
Immaculata would eventually crawl to within four points of Alvernia on three separate occasions over the next two minutes of play. However, that would be as close as the Macs would get. A jumper by Lepone with 2:45 remaining made the score 65-61 before Alvernia went on its decisive run to close out the tilt.
A 14-4 run by Immaculata midway through the first half gave the Macs some breathing room with 6:24 left in the opening frame (28-18). A free throw by senior Reggie Strickland with 3:09 left increased Immaculata’s lead to a game-high 10 before Alvernia started chipping away at the lead, and eventually drawing even with the Mighty Macs at 28-apiece with seven seconds remaining in the first half.
The Crusaders shot a whopping 60 percent (18-for-30) from the field in the second half, slowly walking away from the Macs over the final 20 minutes.
Sophomore Scott Marston was the only other Immaculata player in double figures. He finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Jayson Hyman pulled down a team-best eight boards for the Macs.
Terrence Shawell led Alvernia with a game-high 23 tallies. Tyrone Bradley contributed 17 points and Matt King 13 for the hosts. Bradley also hauled down 12 rebounds, including seven offensive efforts for the Crusaders.
Immaculata returns to action on Monday, Feb. 18 when the Macs travel to Misericordia for a 7 p.m. contest.
Immaculata Falters at Eastern, 85-81
ST. DAVID’S, Pa. – Immaculata University placed four players in double figures in the scoring column, but it wasn’t enough as Eastern University defeated the Mighty Macs, 85-81, on Monday night, Feb. 11. Immaculata falls to 15-7 overall and 10-3 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, while Eastern improves to 11-11 overall, 8-5 PAC.
Junior Kyle Finklea produced a game-high 24 points, on 10 for 19 shooting, and added eight assists and five rebounds in the effort. Sophomore Jayson Hyman tallied 16 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Scott Marston chipped in 15 points, four rebounds and three steals. Senior Dan Lepone was the other Mighty Mac in double-digits with 10 points.
Danny Miller and Daryl Leegwater each posted 20 points for Eastern. Miller added 10 rebounds for the double-double, while Leegwater grabbed five rebounds. Jason Reels chipped in 12 points in the Eagles victory.
Immaculata will be tested again as the league’s top two teams face off when the Mighty Macs travel to Alvernia on Thursday night, Feb. 14. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
Gwynedd-Mercy Tops Immaculata, 74-55
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University’s men’s basketball squad fell to Gwynedd-Mercy College, 74-55, on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 9, at Alumnae Hall.
It marks the Mighty Macs (15-6 overall, 10-2 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) first loss at home this season, after reeling off eight straight victories dating back to the final home game of last season. The Griffins improve to 15-4 overall, 8-5 PAC.
Junior Sean Fordham led the Mighty Macs with 14 points and four steals, while junior Kyle Finklea chipped in 12 points. Senior Dan Lepone added 10 points and four rebounds. Sophomores Jayson Hyman and Scott Marston led Immaculata on the glass with five rebounds each.
Immaculata and Gwynedd-Mercy played one another just six days ago, as the Mighty Macs came back from a 25-point halftime deficit to defeat the Griffins, 81-73, on Monday night.
However, that was not the case this afternoon as Gwynedd-Mercy built a 16-point halftime advantage and came away with the 19-point victory.
Gwynedd-Mercy set the tempo of the game early as it won the opening tip and Haven Wroten went in for the dunk just five seconds into the contest. Gwynedd-Mercy had its largest lead of the first stanza, 36-14, with 5:11 remaining in the half. But, Immaculata ended the half on a 9-3 run, and trailed, 39-23, at halftime.
Immaculata appeared to have the comeback in hand as it narrowed the deficit to 12, 59-47, with 7:09 remaining in the contest. However, the Griffins used a 12-3 spurt, including 8-of-8 from the foul line, over the next 4:23 to go back up by 21.
Dave Smith and Lemeire Talley each registered 15 points to lead the Griffins, and Smith grabbed seven rebounds. Tom Keenan tallied 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Wroten finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
Immaculata begins a three-game road trip on Monday, Feb. 11, when the Mighty Macs travel to Eastern at 8 p.m.
Immaculata Edges Neumann, 63-62
ASTON, Pa. – The Immaculata University’s men’s basketball team defeated Neumann College, 63-62, to remain in first place in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. The Mighty Macs improve to 15-5 overall and 10-1 in the PAC, while the Knights fall to 8-12, 6-6 PAC.
Jayson Hyman registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dan Lepone added 14 points and Kyle Finklea chipped in 13 points. Rob Jones led the Mighty Macs on the glass, pulling down 11 boards.
Eli Hitchens was the only Neumann player in double figures with 16 points and five rebounds. James Swiggett tallied nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Immaculata returns home on Saturday, Feb. 9, when it squares off against Gwynedd-Mercy College. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
Second Half Surge Leads Immaculata To 81-73 Win Over Gwynedd-Mercy
GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Powered by 19 second-half points from junior Kyle Finklea, Immaculata University overcame a 25-point halftime deficit to defeat Gwynedd-Mercy College, 81-73, Monday night in a crucial Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game. The Mighty Macs outscored the Griffins 57-24 during the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.
Immaculata improves to 14-5 overall this season and 9-1 in the PAC, to remain atop the conference standing, while Gwynedd-Mercy slips to 13-7 overall, 6-5 PAC.
Sophomore Jayson Hyman led the way for Immaculata with 22 points and nine rebounds. Finklea added 19 points, all in the second half, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals. Senior Rob Jones chipped in 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while sophomore Scott Marston was the other Mighty Mac in double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals.
The Mighty Macs trailed 49-24 at intermission, but cut the Griffins advantage to 11 (57-46) during the opening six minutes of the second stanza. Gwynedd-Mercy was able to slow down the tempo of the contest during the next four minutes, and rebuild their lead to 13, 61-48.
However, Immaculata quickly picked the pace back up as the Mighty Macs’ scoring frenzy continued with a 15-2 spurt over 5:05, tying the contest at 63-all with 6:59 remaining. The game was still tied (64-64) with 5:43 remaining, but from that point on, it was all Immaculata. The Mighty Macs closed the contest on a 17-9 run to secure their come-from-behind win.
Immaculata shot 58.8% (20-34) from the floor during the second half, including 4 for 5 (80.0%) from behind the arc, while only shooting 22.9% (8-35) from the field during the opening stanza. Gwynedd-Mercy shot 53.4% (31-58) for the game, but only 37.9% (11-29) during the second half.
The Mighty Macs controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Griffins 41-34, including 21 offensive boards, which led to 20 points.
Matt Johnson led the Griffins with 19 points and six rebounds, while Haven Wroten added 16 points.
Immaculata concludes its three-game road trip on Thursday, Feb. 7, when it travels to Neumann College for a 7 p.m. tip.
Cabrini Hands Immaculata First Conference Loss
RADNOR, Pa. – Cabrini College placed four players in double figures as the host Cavaliers shocked the Mighty Macs, 69-59, ending Immaculata University’s unbeaten streak in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play. Immaculata falls to 13-5 on the season and 8-1 in the PAC. Cabrini improves to 8-12, 5-6 in the league.
Junior Julius Lopez led the Mighty Macs with 13 points, while junior Kyle Finklea added 12 points and swiped four steals. Junior Reggie Strickland contributed nine points in the effort, and sophomore Sean Marston added eight points and blocked two shots. Senior Rob Jones led the team on the glass collecting eight rebounds and chipping in seven points.
Immaculata built a seven-point lead, 13-6, at the 14:52 mark of the first half, as Marston added the final six points of the Mighty Macs’ spurt. Cabrini responded by reeling off eight straight points to retake the lead, 14-13, with 12:31 remaining in the half. Over the final 12 minutes of the first stanza, Cabrini outscored Immaculata 25-13 to build a double-digit advantage, 39-26, at intermission.
The Cavaliers took their largest lead of the contest, 45-29, at the 16:44 mark of the second half, when the Mighty Macs came storming back with 14 unanswered points in a span of 6:21 to get within two points, 45-43. After a foul shot by Randy Reid put Cabrini back ahead by three, Strickland went in for a layup that brought the Mighty Macs’ deficit to just one, 46-45, with 9:11 remaining in the game.
However, Cabrini finished the contest outscoring Immaculata 17-10 during the final five minutes to hold on for the 69-59 upset.
Cabrini's Ryan Oxley knocked down four three-point baskets to finish with a game-high 18 points, including 16 points during the first half, while Glenn Washington added 13 points and nine rebounds. Reid and Bruce MacLelland both posted double-doubles. Reid scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while MacLelland tallied 12 points and hauled down 10 rebounds.
Immaculata looks to get back on the winning side on Monday, February 4, at 8 p.m. as the Mighty Macs travel to Gwynedd-Mercy.
Mighty Macs Late Surge Pushes Past Cougars
The Immaculata University men's basketball team defeated visiting Misericordia University, 67-58, in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon, January 26, in Alumnae Hall. The victory improves the Mighty Macs to 13-4 overall and keeps them unblemished at 8-0 in the PAC.
Junior Kyle Finklea led the way for Immaculata with 15 points, handed out four assists and three steals, while junior Julius Lopez added 13 points. Seniors Dan Lepone and Reggie Strickland each tallied 12 points, while Strickland led the Mighty Macs on the glass with eight rebounds. Senior Rob Jones added six points and registered three steals, and sophomore Scott Marston chipped in six points.
Immaculata trailed by one point at the half, but opened the second half with a dunk by Marston to regain the lead, 33-32. Misericordia pushed its advantage to as many as seven, 51-44, with 12:26 to play in the contest. Immaculata answered with a 9-3 run, tying the contest at 53-53 with 7:01 remaining. The game was tied for the ninth time, 57-57, with 4:52 left, and the Mighty Macs finished the contest outscoring the Cougars, 10-1.
Vinny Baumunk led the way for the Cougars with a double-double performance of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Dom Del Prete was the only other scorer in double figures for Misercordia (10-6, 4-3 PAC) with 12 points and seven boards.
Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday, February 2, when it travels to Cabrini for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
Mighty Macs Hold Off Knights
Immaculata University men's basketball team defeated Neumann College 71-64 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Thursday, January 24, in Alumnae Hall. The Mighty Macs improve to 12-4 overall and 7-0 in the PAC.
Junior Kyle Finklea and sophomore Jayson Hyman each recorded 16 points, while senior Rob Jones collected 12 points and three steals. Sophomore Scott Marston amassed six points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal, while senior Dan Lepone totaled 10 points off the bench. Hyman also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Trailing 53-47 with 8:44 remaining in the second half Immaculata used an 8-0 run to post a 55-53 lead at 6:52. The Knights retook the lead, 60-59, with 3:56 left. But the Mighty Macs held Neumann to only four points down the stretch and went 6-6 from the foul line to earn the 71-64 victory.
Eli Hitchens collected a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Mike Hitchens posted 17 points. Derahn Patrick added 14 points in the loss for the Knights (5-10, 3-4 PAC).

Macs Stay Mighty And Unbeaten In Conference; Immaculata In First Place
Junior Sean Fordham poured in 15 points to lead Immaculata University to a 76-59 victory over Marywood University in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Monday, January 21. The Mighty Macs improve to 11-4 overall and 6-0 in the PAC and take over sole possession of first place.
Fordham scored all 15 of his points from beyond the arc as he went 5-7 from downtown. Senior Reggie Strickland added 11 points off the bench, while sophomore Jayson Hyman registered 10 points for Immaculata. Sophomore Scott Marston collected eight points and six rebounds, while senior Kyle Finklea amassed six points, four assists and four rebounds.
Senior Dan Lepone netted nine points off the bench, while senior Rob Jones totaled six points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Junior Julius Lopez established a new career high with five assists.
Trailing 13-12 with 10:50 remaining in the first half, the Mighty Macs went on a 17-3 run to post a 29-16 lead with 5:27 left. Immaculata never looked back as it took a 43-23 lead into halftime.
The Mighty Macs pushed their lead to a game-high 25 points, 69-44, en route to the 76-59 victory.
Jerome Gosney led the Pacers (6-8, 0-6) with 17 points, while Matthew Medici collected a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Mighty Macs Slip Past Tough Centenary College; Stay Undefeated In PAC
Immaculata University men's basketball team held off a feisty Centenary College squad to post an 81-77 victory in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, January 12, in Alumnae Hall. The win keeps the Mighty Macs undefeated in conference play (10-4, 5-0 PAC).
Sophomore Jayson Hyman recorded a team-high 15 points, while senior Reggie Strickland registered 14 points off the bench. Junior Kyle Finklea amassed 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, while senior Dan Lepone collected 13 points, including two free throws to ice the game down the stretch.
Senior Rob Jones pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Hyman added seven rebounds.
Trailing 49-42 with 14:58 remaining in the second half, Immaculata used a 12-3 run to grab a 54-52 lead with 10:52 left. The Cyclones (3-12, 1-6) tied the game at 56-56 with 9:42 remaining, before the Mighty Macs went on an 11-2 run to post a 67-58 lead at 6:18.
However, Centenary cut into the lead and tied the game, for the 11th time, at 77-77 with 0:51 left. But a layup by Strickland and two free throws by Lepone with 0:10 remaining solidified Immaculata's 81-77 victory.
Andrew Baker collected a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Cyclones. William Atkinson totaled 17 points, while Corey Kearney scored 14 points.

Mighty Macs Fall At Widener To Close Non-Conference Play
Immaculata University men's basketball team fell to Widener University 90-76, in non-conference action on Monday, January 14, in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Sophomore Scott Marston set a career high with 22 points and tied his career best with 11 rebounds, while junior Kyle Finklea recorded 23 points. Marston also added a career-high five blocks. Senior Dan Lepone registered 12 points off the bench, while junior Sean Fordham collected 10 points in the loss for the Mighty Macs (9-4).
Immaculata held a 30-25 lead with 4:09 left in the first half, but the Pride used a 15-7 run to close the half. Widener held a 40-37 lead at halftime. The Pride continued their run into the second half and scored the first seven points of the half to hold a 47-37 lead with 19:01 remaining.
Immaculata pulled within seven (63-56) at the 12:10 mark, but Widener used a 12-2 run to grab a 75-58 lead with 5:51 left in the second stanza.
Charles Jones posted 20 points, while Jamarr Johnson netted 17 points to pace Widener (13-1).

Immaculata Defeats Cabrini For The First Time; Stays Unbeaten In PAC
Sophomore Jayson Hyman scored a game-high 14 points to lead Immaculata University to a 70-53 win over Cabrini College in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, January 12, in Alumnae Hall.
Junior Kyle Finklea recorded 11 points and five assists, while senior Dan Lepone registered 10 points and two assists off the bench. Senior Robert Jones amassed seven points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while sophomore Julius Lopez posted eight points off the bench. Senior Reggie Strickland added seven points in the win for the Mighty Macs (9-3, 4-0 PAC).
Immaculata, which never trailed in the contest, jumped out to a 23-6 lead with 8:33 remaining in the first half. The Mighty Macs held the Cavaliers (5-8, 2-2) scoreless for 5:31 during the opening stanza and forced Cabrini to shot 28.1% (7-25) from the floor in the first half. The Mighty Macs held a 32-16 lead at the half.
The Cavaliers used a 12-6 (38-28) run to open the second half. But that would be as close as they would get, as Immaculata would score the next eight points to hold a 46-28 lead with 11:18 remaining.
Glen Washington led Cabrini with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Wes Toth added six points off the bench in the loss.
The Mighty Macs return to action on Monday, January 14, when they travel to face Widener University. Tip-off is set for 7 pm.

Immaculata University men's basketball team defeated SUNY-Maritime 57-43, in the consolation game of the Marymount University Comcast Challenge on Saturday, January 5. The challenge was held from Friday, January 4-Saturday, January 5 in Arlington, Virginia.
Senior Kyle Finklea recorded a team-high 13 points, while sophomore Scott Marston, in his first start of the seaso, registered 11 points. Senior Robert Jones amassed 10 points and three rebounds, while sophomore Jayson Hyman pulled down seven rebounds. Senior Dan Lepone scored nine points off the bench for the Mighty Macs (8-3).
Giovanni Hurley collected a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Privateers (6-6).

Messiah Slips Past Immaculata
Immaculata University men's basketball team fell to Messiah College 66-61, in the opening round of the Marymount University Comcast Challenge on Friday, January 4. The challenge is being held on the campus of Marymount University from Friday, January 4-Saturday, January 5 in Arlington, Virginia.
Junior Kyle Finklea led all scorers with 23 points, while senior Rob Jones netted 14 points on 5-7 from the field. Sophomore Jayson Hyman recorded 10 points and eight rebounds, while Jones added seven rebounds.
Tied 16-16 with 7:43 remaining in the first half, the Mighty Macs went on a 17-5 run, which overlapped into the second half, to take a 33-21 lead with 18:38 left. However, the Falcons responded with a 24-8 run to grab a 45-41 lead with 8:00 remaining in the final half.
Immaculata was able to retake the lead, 50-49, with 4:28 left, but Messiah held the Mighty Macs to three points over the next 3:59 to post a 62-53 with 0:29 remaining. The Falcons held on for the 66-61 victory.
Andy Hawk and Jamie Yoder recorded 13 points apiece to pace Messiah (5-3).
Immaculata (7-3) returns to action on Saturday, January 5, when the face the loser of the Marymount/SUNY-Maritime game. The consolation game is set for 2 pm.
Mighty Macs Halt Two-Game Skid

Junior Kyle Finklea led the Mighty Macs (7-2) with 15 points, while senior Dan Lepone recorded 13 points and three steals. Junior Sean Fordham registered 12 points and tied his career high with four steals, while senior Robert Jones amassed 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Scott Marston provided seven points off the bench for Immaculata.
Jay Simpson led Hamilton (4-3) with 15 points, while Ramunas Rozgys totaled 11 points and eight rebounds.
Immaculata Drops Second Straight Game
Immaculata University men's basketball team fell to Randolph-Macon College 91-59, on Saturday December 29, in the opening game of the 2007 Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic on the campus of Randolph Macon in Ashland, Virginia.
Senior Robert Jones recorded a team-high 12 points, while junior Kyle Finklea recorded nine points. Jones also added six rebounds, three steals and tied his career high with two blocks. Sophomore Scott Marston totaled eight points and six rebounds off the bench, while Julius Lopez scored seven points for the Mighty Macs (6-2).
Justin Short led all scorers with 19 points, while Jeremy Dixion and Jordan Brown each registered 16 points to pace the Yellow Jackets (6-2).
Mighty Macs Suffer First Loss Of The Season
Immaculata University men's basketball team fell to Rowan University 85-79 in non-conference action on Friday, December 21, in Glassboro, New Jersey. It was the first loss of the season for the Mighty Macs (6-1).
Immaculata put five players in double-figures, including junior Sean Fordhman who collected a career-high 16 points. Junior Kyle Finklea recorded 15 points, while junior Julius Lopez tallied 11 points off the bench. Senior Reggie Strickland and sophomore Jayson Hyman each registered 10 points, while Hyman added nine rebounds and a career-best five steals.
Matt Byrnes led all scorers with 30 points, while Kevin Darby totaled 17 points for the Profs (9-1).

Immaculata Stays Unbeaten: Declaws the Bears
Senior Dan Lepone scored a team-high 17 points to lead Immaculata University to an 87-77 victory over Ursinus College in non-conference action on Wednesday, December 19, in Alumnae Hall. Off to their best start in school history, the Mighty Macs improved to 6-0 overall.
In addition to Lepone's 17 points, Immaculata put four others in double figures. Sophomore Jayson Hyman recorded 16 points, while senior Reggie Strickland collected 15 points. Junior Julius Lopez also registered 15 points, while senior Rob Jones totaled 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Strickland added six rebounds for the Mighty Macs.
Trailing 25-17 with 9:02 left in the first half, Immaculata used a 14-2 run to grab a 31-27 lead with 3:45 left in the opening stanza. Ursinus (6-2) retook the lead, 34-33, with 2:11 remaining, but the Mighty Macs finished the first half with a 39-36 lead.
The Bears held a 68-67 lead with 9:03 left in the second half, before Immaculata went on a 16-5 run to post an 83-73 lead with 0:51 left. The Mighty Macs' defense held Ursinus to nine points over the final nine minutes and forced the Bears into 18 turnovers. Immaculata committed only seven.
Nick Shattuck led all scorers with 24 points, while Matt Hilton posted 12 points for Ursinus.
The Mighty Macs return to action on Friday, December 21, when they travel to face 8-1 Rowan University. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
Jones Earns PAC Player of the Week Honors
Senior Rob Jones was named Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week for the week ending December 9. The award was announced on Monday, December 10 at the conference office in Aston, PA.
Jones averaged 18.0 points per game to lead the Mighty Macs to a 2-0 week. He collected two straight doubles-doubles, including a 19-point, 11-rebound effort vs. Delaware Valley College on Saturday. Jones collected 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-65 victory over Alvernia College on Monday, December 3. He shot 88.9% from the charity stripe and 45.2% from the floor in the two games last week.

Mighty Macs Continue Torrid Start
Senior Robert Jones collected a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Immaculata University to a 76-61 victory over Delaware Valley College in non-conference action on Saturday, December 8, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. In only their third year of existence the Mighty Macs (5-0) are off to their best start in team history.
Junior Kyle Finklea recorded 17 points, four assists and three steals, while sophomore Jayson Hyman grabbed 10 rebounds. Senior Reggie Strickland registered 10 points off the bench, while junior Julius Lopez went 3-5 from beyond the arc for nine points.
Trailing 13-12 with 12:06 left in the first half, Immaculata used a 12-4 run to grab a 24-17 lead with 6:43 remaining. The Mighty Macs took a 34-25 lead into halftime. The Aggies (0-8) were able to pull within seven points (42-35) with 11:43 left, but the Mighty Macs pulled away and held a game-high 18-point lead (63-45) with 3:04 left.
Matt Beichey led Del Val with 15 points and six rebounds, while Brian Hilinski added 10 points.
Finklea Earns PAC Player of the Week Honors
Junior Kyle Finklea was named Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week for the week ending December 2. The award was announced on Monday, December 3 at the conference office in Aston, PA.
Finklea averaged 26.0 ppg to lead the Mighty Macs to a 2-0 week. He posted a career-high 32 points in the win over Marywood on Saturday, December 1. Finklea also tallied 20 points in the victory over Centenary on November 29. He went 12-15 (80.0%) from the charity stripe in the victory over the Pacers and shot 60.0% (9-15) vs. the Cyclones.

Immaculata Wins Again; Off To Best Start In Team History
Sophomore Jayson Hyman collected a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Immaculata University to a 70-65 win over Alvernia College in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Monday, December 3, in Alumnae Hall.
It was the first time in their short three-year history that the Mighty Macs defeated the Crusaders. Immaculata also avenged its 70-55 loss to Alvernia in the conference championship last season.
Senior Robert Jones also contributed a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while junior Kyle Finklea poured in 14 points and registered six assists. Senior Reggie Strickland totaled six points off the bench.
Trailing 19-15 with 8:46 left in the first half, the Mighty Macs used a 17-6 run to close the half and take a 32-25 lead into intermission. Immaculata never lost its lead in the second half, but a 12-point lead (69-57) with 1:59 left was cut to four (69-65) as the Crusaders scored eight straight points. But time ran out for Alvernia as the Mighty Macs held on for the 70-65 victory.
Matt King led all scorers with 22 points, while Terrence Shawell added 14 points. Tyrone Bradley amassed a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Immaculata (4-0, 3-0 PAC), off to its best start in team history, returns to action on Saturday, December 8, when they travel to face Delaware Valley College. Tip-off is set for 3 pm.
Mighty Macs Stop The Pacers
Junior Kyle Finklea recorded a career-high 32 points to lead Immaculata University to a 75-62 victory over Marywood University in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, December 1, in Scranton, PA.
Sophomore Jayson Hyman collected a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Rob Jones amassed 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior Julius Lopez registered nine points off the bench.
The Mighty Macs took an eight-point lead (36-28) into the half after shooting 46.9-percent from the floor. Finklea led Immaculata with 11 points in the first half in the opening stanza.
The Pacers would trim the Mighty Macs lead to five after a Karl Anderson lay-up early in the second half, but that was as close as Marywood would come as Immaculata stayed hot from the floor, shooting 50 percent in the second half.
Prince Blacknall led the Pacers with 21 points, while Matthew Medici totaled a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Immaculata Wins Conference Opener
Immaculata University men's basketball team defeated Centenary College 80-58, in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) opener on Thursday, November 29, in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
Junior Kyle Finklea led all scorers with 20 points, while sophomore Jayson Hyman collected a double-double with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Senior Rob Jones tallied 13 points and tied his career high with three steals and two blocks. Junior Julius Lopez came off the bench and provided 10 points, while junior Sean Fordham registered a career high with six assists.
Trailing 10-8 with 12:37 left in the first half, the Mighty Macs (2-0, 1-0 PAC) used a 27-13 run to close the half and take a 35-23 halftime lead. Immaculata opened the second stanza on an 18-8 run to post a 53-31 lead with 13:52 remaining.
Andrew Baker and Robert Urie each totaled 17 points to lead the Cyclones (1-4, 0-1 PAC).
Mighty Macs Win Season Opener
Immaculata University men's basketball team defeated Chestnut Hill College 87-78, on Monday, November 19, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was the season opener for the Mighty Macs.
Junior Kyle Finklea led all scorers with 24 points, while senior Dan Lepone recorded 22 points on 8-11 from the floor. Senior Rob Jones collected a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Junior Julius Lopez came off the bench and added 13 points, while junior Sean Fordham amassed seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kevin Whaley registered 15 points to pace the Griffins (0-2), while L.B. Rebstock and Mike Acquaviva totaled 12 points a piece.
Immaculata (1-0) returns to action on Thursday, November 29, when they travel to face Centenary College. Tip-off is set for 8 pm.
Mighty Macs Picked To Finish Second In The South Division
Immaculata University men's basketball team has been was selected to finish second in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) men's basketball preseason poll. The poll was released on Tuesday, November 13, in Aston, PA.
The Mighty Macs finished the 2006-07 campaign with a mark of 12-16 overall, a record of 10-8 in the PAC and a berth in the PAC tournament. In only the second year of existence Immaculata advanced all the way to the conference championship, before falling to Alvernia College. For his efforts, head coach Jamie Chadwin was named '06-07 PAC Coach of the Year.
Alvernia was selected as the preseason favorite in the PAC. The defending conference champions, received eight of nine first-place votes and earned 80 points.
The Mighty Macs (65) were picked to finish second, while Gwynedd-Mercy College (61) was selected to finish third. Eastern University (60) and Misericordia University (40) placed fourth and fifth, respectively to round out the top-five.
Neumann College (35), Cabrini College (34), Marywood University (18), and Centenary College (12) were selected to finish sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth roudning out the preseason poll.
The Mighty Macs begin the 2007-08 campaign in Philadelphia, PA on Tuesday, November 19 at Chestnut Hill College. Tip-off is set for 7 pm.
Chadwin Named Coach Of The Year; Finklea And Jones Earn Second Team Spots
After taking Immaculata University to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Game, head men's basketball coach, Jamie Chadwin was named the PAC Coach of the Year. The honor was announced on Monday, February 26, at the conference office in Aston, PA.
The Mighty Macs began the season 1-10, but rebounded and recorded a mark of 11-6 over the next 17 games to finish their second season with a record of 12-16 overall. In conference play Immaculata totaled a mark of 10-8 and earned the #3 seed in the PAC Playoffs. Last season, the Mighty Macs compiled a mark of 5-20 overall and 4-14 in the PAC.
With its #3 seed, Immaculata hosted Wesley College in the school's first home male playoff game. The Mighty Macs defeated the Wolverines 77-62 to secure their first postseason victory. Immaculata followed that win with an upset victory over Gwynedd-Mercy, 65-59, to advance to the championship game. It was the first win in five tries vs. the Griffins. The season came to end in the PAC Championship as Alvernia College defeated the Mighty Macs 70-55.
For their efforts on the season, sophomore Kyle Finklea and junior Robert Jones were named Second Team All-PAC selections. Finklea, who missed four games due to an injury, led the squad in scoring (13.5) and assists (68), while Jones was tops on Immaculata in rebounding (8.0) and was second in scoring (12.6). Finklea scored 20 or more points on three occasions, including a season-high 29 points vs. Marywood University. Jones collected seven double-doubles, including a 28-point, 13-rebound vs. Neumann College. Both were career highs. Sophomore Josh Alderson received All-PAC Sportsmanship honors.
