The 1972 Team display the plaques they received after winning the first women’s national basketball championship (AIAW) in Normal, Illinois, on March 19, 1972. Some members of the team were unable to travel to Illinois for the final game because of a lack of funds.

Denise Conway (Crawford) pictured was a member of all three national championship teams and captain of the 1974 team.




Two-hour evening practices were the daily norm for Immaculata coach Cathy Rush as she prepared her women’s basketball team for three consecutive national championships in 1972, 1973, and 1974.
