A formal letter of acceptance from Immaculata University will indicate that all admissions requirements have been met. A Certificate of Eligibility (I-20) is issued to the student who has shown intent to enroll. The Certificate of Eligibility must be presented to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate along with a passport and the Immaculata University acceptance letter when applying for the F-1 visa. Applicants should be prepared to provide proof of residence abroad to which they intend to return after completion of studies.
The Certificate of Eligibility (I-20) will indicate the length of time the student will be granted for study in the United States. The student’s passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the date of completion of studies.
When traveling to the United States, the student should carry the following documents:
- Passport which includes immigration documents with visa and SEVIS fee receipt
- SEVIS Form I-20
- Evidence of financial resources
- Evidence of student status
- Contact information for Designated School Official at Immaculata
Upon arrival in the United States, the student will proceed to the Department of Homeland Security station at the port of entry. He/she should have the following documents ready: passport, SEVIS I-20, Form I-94 Arrival-Departure Record, and CF-6059 Customs Declaration Form. The Form I-94 should reflect the student’s home address. It is important that the inspecting officer stamps the documents. If it should occur that the student is requested to proceed to a “secondary inspection,” it is essential that he/she has the name and number of a contact person at Immaculata University.
Living on Campus
It is recommended that entering freshmen live in the student residence halls unless they have made appropriate arrangements for off-campus housing approved by a relative or guardian.
Let the Office of Commuter and Residence Life know as soon as possible if you are interestd in on-campus housing.
On-campus housing for international transfer and graduate students is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Preparing for Your F-1 Visa Interview
This information is for people who plan to enter the United States for the first time to study. For information on bringing dependents to the U.S., returning to continue studies, or renewing your visa, refer to the U.S.Department of State website:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/tempvisitors_types_students2.html
Procedure
Contact your local U.S.Consulate or Embassy to ask about how to get an F-1 international student visa. (http://usembassy.state.gov/).
After you receive an I-20 form from Immaculata University, follow the U.S.Embassy/Consulate’s instructions to schedule an interview for your F-1 student visa. It is important to apply for your student visa as far in advance as possible. Most consulates recommend that appointments be made no more than 90 days from the intended date of travel, but some can make earlier arrangements for interviews.
Complete the following forms:
- DS-156 Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form
- DS-158 Contact Information and Work History for Nonimmigrant Visa Applicant
- DS-157 Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application (for males 16 to 45)
Pay the visa application fee. (Instructions are on embassy web site).
Pay the $100 SEVIS fee using form I-901.(www.FMJfee.com).
To pay by mail:
A check, international money order or foreign draft (drawn on U.S. banks only) made payable to THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT. Mail the payment and completed I-901 form to the address listed on the form. A Form I-797 receipt confirmation letter should be sent to you within 3 days of processing the fee. Be sure to make copies of this receipt letter, and keep it with your other important immigration documents.
To pay Online:
Complete the form online and supply the necessary Visa, MasterCard or American Express information. Name must be written exactly as it appears on the I-20 form. Print a copy of the receipt and keep it with your other important immigration documents.
You must bring the receipt of fee payment with you to the interview. If you have lost the receipt, the Visa Officer should be able to view your payment history on the database.
If you are transferring schools, extending your program, applying for an F-2 dependent visa, or have paid this fee and been denied a visa within the last twelve months, you do not need to pay the $100 SEVIS fee.
