Sociology Minor

Total Credits: 18

Rationale

A minor in sociology provides the student with an understanding of such major sociological concepts as: culture, community, social class, alienation as well as social processes (e.g., competition, conflict and cooperation). The student will learn to apply these concepts to areas such as ethnic and racial relations, women's studies, and the family. In addition to these sociological areas, the student will have an opportunity to focus on social issues ranging from drugs and crime and social inequality on the societal level to world hunger on the international level.

The sociological minor also offers an opportunity for students to select courses that focus on the "fundamentals of working with people."

Finally, the minor provides the student with an opportunity to probe the social issues of society within the context of the Catholic Christian value system of social justice.
