Why Do Administrators Teach?

"Although I primarily serve the college in my role as undergraduate academic dean, I believe it is essential that I continue to teach within the department.  Immaculata is truly a "teaching institution", and there is a long history of full-time administrators continuing to teach at least one course a semester.  This teaching commitment enables me to get out of the office and in touch with students.  In this way, students and administrators can come to know each other as part of a learning community; there is much less distance between them and, hopefully, less intimidation about approaching an administrator in times of need.  I enjoy my early morning classes immensely and look forward to continuing to teach as a member of the psychology department.
