The goal of the Dietetic Internship is to prepare dietetic interns to become contributing and effective members of the profession of dietetics. To achieve this goal, the Dietetic Internship reflects the integration of the academic expertise of the university with the medical and dietetic expertise of health care facilities in the surrounding geographical area.
The supervised practice component endeavors to respond to the evolving changes of the profession of dietetics by leading students to become translators of theories of nutrition science. The Internship can be completed full-time or part-time (3 days per week). The program begins in late August or early September. The full-time program is completed in June while the part-time program continues through August or September. The internship provides students with the opportunity to develop strong entry level dietetic performance skills through 1024 hours of supervised practice in clinical dietetics, food service management, and community nutrition.
Following the successful completion of the supervised practice portion of the internship, students will receive a verification statement confirming their eligibility to sit for the registration examination for dietitians (RD). Students may continue to enroll full or part-time to complete the master's program (45 credits).
The Dietetic Internship is currently granted accreditation by the
Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association,
120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995,
a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation and the United States Department of Education
