Nursing Department History
Immaculata University has assisted registered nurses (RN) in the completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) since 1984. At its inception, the delivery of the BSN program occurred in a traditional semester format. However in 1998, as a response to the national nursing shortage that began in the late 1990's, the University began offering an accelerated format of delivering the BSN which allows students to complete 50 credits in less than two years while still working full-time. The National League of Nurses Accreditation Commission has accredited this program since 1989. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education acredited the BSN program in October 2004.
Also available is the School Nursing Certification, approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education since 1990.
After many requests from local nursing employers in Chester and Delaware Counties and graduates of the BSN program, Immaculata University developed a Masters of Science in Nursing. The MSN program received initial approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education in August 2003. The first MSN classes began in January 2004.
Through both the BSN and MSN programs, Immaculata University is committed to preparing students to bring vision, leadership, and a service-oriented focus into their nursing practice in the 21st century.
