Certificate in Expressive Arts
The Graduate Certificate in Expressive Arts, an 18 credit program, presents initiatives for study, experiential work and practice in music, visual arts, dance, movement, and drama therapy. These media continue to be strong forces in client/learner related situations. This program focuses upon the use of the arts to promote well being through expression. Internationally known artists and therapists are featured in the Circles of Healing series, the Institute for Music and Healing, and the Music for People graduate Seminars.
The singing voice will be used to create songs through verse; instruments will be used for improvisation; listening to musical excerpts will provide a means of expressing oneself verbally; drawing, painting, creating shapes and designs will inspire journal writing and other forms of communication; moving in improvisatory or structured ways within ballet, dance, and motion formations will expand one's meaning through sound events, musical styles, patterns, and song; and acting and creating drama will be used to tell life stories.
By combining these arts in multimedia presentations, simulations, and analysis, incentives for program development will take place for those participants planning to become expressive arts facilitators and to pursue the certificate.
