Audition Requirements
(B.M. in Music Education, B.M. in Music Therapy, B.A. in Music)
- Prepare two solo pieces - preferably of different styles/periods in the primary performance area. (These need not be memorized and vocalists are not required to sing in a foreign language.)
- Provide two copies of the pieces performed.
- If not primarily a pianist, demonstrate proficiency, if any, at the piano.
- If not primarily a vocalist, sing a song of your choice.
- Complete a simple sight-reading melody.
- Complete a musical aptitude test.
- Complete a test in music fundamentals (key signatures, basic rhythms, treble/bass clef reading, basic intervals, major/minor scale patterns, and basic triads. This test is designed for placement in the appropriate music theory class.
The entire audition will last for one and one-half to two hours.

AUDITION INFORMATION: (modified from the 2007-2008 Music Brochure)
- Students will be asked to perform two (2) solo pieces in their primary performance area that represent different musical periods/styles. While memorization is preferred, it is not required.
- Applicants will be asked to sing a simple song of their choice.
- The audition will include pitch matching, rhythm reading, and sight-singing a simple melody
- Applicants will also be asked to complete a Diagnostic Theory Exam to determine the level of experience with music theory fundamentals.
