Allied Health Diagnostic Medical Sonography
The Health Care Sciences and Services department of Immaculata University
offers a degree program in Allied Health with a specialization in Diagnostic
Medical Sonography. Students receive classroom and clinical instruction in
all aspects of diagnostic ultrasound in preparation for entry-level positions.
Upon satisfactory completion of program requirements, graduates are eligible
to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
(CAROMS) examinations in physics, abdomen and obstetrics/gynecology. The
students additionally will receive a liberal arts core curriculum which will
prepare them to grow into leadership positions within the Health Care
environment.
Career Opportunities
Employment of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2012 as the population grows and ages. Employment opportunities are in areas such as:
- Hospitals
- Outpatient Services
- Physician Office settings
The core liberal arts preparation will also prepare the graduate to assume a leadership position within a provider organization.

Diagnostic Medical Sonographers can expect to earn an average salary of $60,000 per year; with additional professional experience and potential management assignments they can earn as much as $70 - 75,000 per year.
