Matthew Leary, Ph.D.,
Assistant Professor
Dr. Matthew Leary earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined the faculty in 2003. His dissertation examined the impacts of stress and single mothers' attitudes towards child-rearing on children's displays of internalizing and externalizing behavior. Other areas of interest include family therapy, therapy with children and adolescents, and integrating systems, attachment, experiential/humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to therapy.
Dr. Leary teaches in the M.A. program and in the Psy.D. program, and serves as the Field Site Coordinator of the Master's level Practicum/Internships (Mental Health, School Psychology, and School Guidance Counseling). He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP). He was a member of the planning committee for the AAP 2003 Institute and Conference, and is a member of the conference planning committee for the 2005 Institute and Conference.
