Chemistry Department Programs

The Chemistry Department offers a variety of programs to meet the academic needs and varied interests of students.  The programs were desinged to provide academic rigor in the study of chemsitry, fulfill the liberal arts requirements of Immaculata, and allow for students to persue studies in areas that are of interest to them.

The department offers a B.S. and a B.A. in chemsitry that would meet the needs of students who are looking to persue careers in research and industry, undertake graduate studies, or seek admission to a professional school.  Students have the option of taking a true double major, culminating in the awarding of a B.A. degree in chemistry and a B.A. degree in biology.  Students who want to be chemists, but work in more non-traditional jobs should consider the B.A. in chemistry with a minor in either business or infromation technology.  These degree programs would be the choice of students who wanted to work in such areas as pharmaceutical sales, computer modeling, scientific wiritng, and protocol/policy review.

Students who wish to become high school chemistry teachers have the B.A. in chemistry with secondary education certification.  This program provides students with a rigorous background in chemistry along with the required education courses to meet the certification requirements in the state of Pennsylvania and prepare them to take the PRAXIS exams.

Those students who have an interst in chemistry, but are in another major, are encouraged to pursue the minor in chemsitry.  The minor in chemsitry is a popular option taken by biology and mathematics majors.  Having the minor in chemsitry broadens a students background and makes them more marketable upon graduation.

Below are links to each of the programs the Chemsitry Departmert offers.  When you click on a specific program you will see a course sequence sheet that lists the courses tol be taken in each semester of each year.  A more detailed description of each course can be found in the Immaculata University catalog.
