Undergraduate Research
Qualified students are invited to carry out undergraduate research projects in their junior and senior years under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Research projects are commensurate with undergraduate education, consistent with the mentor's expertise, and carried out in compliance with the guidelines provided by the university's Research Ethics Review Board. The projects are supported through grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Nation Science Foundation, and others administered by the university's Office of Sponsored Research. Students present the results of their research at meetings of the Council for Undergraduate Research, the Pennsylvania Academy of Science, and other venues.
The Biology Department encourages its students to engage in undergraduate research. The research may take the form of summer internships on— or off—campus or independent courses during the regular academic year. Information on extramural research internship opportunities is kept on file and is available to all our science students.
